There seems to be a lot of conversations about aftermarket exhausts and the conversation many times is about how loud a given exhaust may be. I grew up when one of the first things you did was install "duals" and "glasspacs" and it was a sound I couldn't get enough of.
Now, I still appreciate the sound of a "tuned" exhaust but I find a "loud" exhaust annoying even if it sounds "good". I was running along side a C5 the other day with my windows down and I began to wonder how does that guy live with that exhaust day in and day out.
Many factory exhaust systems are music to my ears. An example of this is the early 86-89 5.0 Mustangs. I had a 86 model way back when and I would sometimes start it up just to hear it run.
I have a Corsa system and I am very pleased with it. The only time I hear it is when I am really on the throttle. Cruising it might as well be stock. The only thing it needs to make me want to go out to the garage and start it up just to listen would be a cam. I sometimes go to you tube just to listen to different cam/exhaust set ups. My plan is to do a head and cam upgade along with long tubes and intake at some point in the future.
Sounds like we grew up in the same period . . .and "loud" really isn't the right description . . ."rumble" maybe ? I put Billy Boat Route 66 on my C6 before I'd had it a month . . when a Dodge pick up truck sounded better than my Corvette, I knew something was wrong.
Same deal on this C5 . . .it just sounds like a Corvette is supposed to sound!
I wanted "BOTH" so I finally opted for the B&B Fusion exhaust mufflers -
However I do have full 3" all the way, I have the full 3" C6 ZR1 manifolds, cats and Xpipe into my 3" B&B Fusion Bi-Mode mufflers -
So since I like it quiet and stealth, with a flip of a small switch I can go to the open side of the mufflers and have the full flow and loud if I want! Close it and super quiet too!
Cruisin' around town with the windows down, targa top off, I love to listen to the exhaust notes of my car. I love the sound even more with the long tubes I just put on a bout a month ago. It goes through my RT 66 B&B Catback which sounds pretty good. But when I want it screaming loud, I flip the switch, and open the cutouts. I've actually set off a car alarm or two recently!!!!
Borla straight pipes for me. Great sound, throaty. Got to remember that the LS1's firing order is different than the "old" 350 so the exhaust notes sound more European. I just cannot see spending $1500 on a cat-back...
For me i LOVE loud. Not an obnoxious kind of loud but a deep raspy loud.
I'm running SLP Loudmouths, and 1 7/8 Headers with a Catless X-Pipe. At idle it sounds pretty good, just cruising around town it's pretty loud i would say. At WOT, man its just beautiful . Again, i've heard many descriptions of what people consider loud. To my taste mine is perfect as is.

I have the Corsa Pace Car catback on mine and it is just perfect as far as I am concerned. Nice rumble at idle, sounds good just cruising and when you step on the gas, you can definitely tell it is not a stock muffler system.
that's why i love my cutouts.
i can cruise around town and purr like a cadillac with the B&Bs but when i'm playing around or am at the track, i've got straight-piped LTs
