Ok, guys so as the title says my 03Z wont start. i left work on friday and the car had a hard time starting. It turned over nice and strong but acted like it did wont to start. well once it did it ran fine. well when i got home i decided to go some where else. it did the same thing again just a little worse. well as im going down the road the rpm's drop below 2k and wont go up even if i give it gas. it was spitting and sputtering. as i turned around the car died. took several attempts to get it started again. but once it did the rpms bottomed out to 500 or lower till it completely died. the car was sputtering the whole time. once the car died again i had no luck at getting it to crank back. ive never had any problems out of the car. it showed no signs of illness. heres what i have done.
Checked battery-Good
Checked fuel pump-Good
Checked relays and fuses-Good
Checked fuel rail pressure-Good
CHANGED fuel filter
Car cranks and runs with ether being sprayed in the throttle body but dies once you stop, so its got spark.
Yes it has gas in it!!
also when the car was acting up it showed NO codes. the check engine light didnt even come one??!! I mean shouldnt something come on?
I had a similar problem once. We replaced the fuel pump but it didn't solve the problem. Then we replaced the fuel pump wiring harness and BINGO - no more problem. Now my car has a C6Z pump and Racetronix harness... it's just begging for boost.
Another thing, I see you checked your battery and fuses. For completeness, be sure to check and clean your grounds as well.
ok so i check this time with a fuel pressure guage. with the switch on it was pushing a huge 5 psi. Im guessing thats a good sign of a bad pump? oh and i got lucky and have the earlier 2003 model, so the fuel pump is on the side. should be a quick fix.
do the whole thing, pump, sending unit, sock and new seal. it all has to come out anyway and there are two styles of fuel senders in c5's ones that have failed and ones that will fail
don't overlook that $40 donut gasket, apparently they can leak if not replaced and a leaky gas tank would suck
