Friend has a 2002 C5 coupe with auto, and he's asking why his DIC display is flashing this message across it? I have never heard of that before so I told him I would ask on the forum. Any info?
"All covered in the owner's manual. The messages you saw are normal. Here's an excerpt from the owner's manual:
[ACT HNDLG - WARMING UP: When you first start
your vehicle (especially during cold winter weather), and
begin to drive away (up to 6 mph (10 km/h)), the
message ACT HNDLG - WARMING UP may be
displayed in the DIC, the instrument panel cluster light
will be on, and a chime will sound. This is normal.
You can acknowledge this message by pressing the
RESET button. The Active Handling System
performance is affected until the next message WARM
UP COMPLETE is displayed in the DIC.
During hot or cold temperature conditions, this message
may be displayed in the DIC after exceeding 12 mph
(20 km/h) for 30 seconds. The Active Handling System is
off until the WARM UP COMPLETE message is
displayed.
WARM UP COMPLETE: If you receive this message
and hear a chime, the system has completed the
functional check of the Active Handling System."

It means foreplay is over and it is time for action.
I've gotten the active handling warming up, then warm up complete messages a couple of times. It was always at Sonic where I would back out, proceed slowly, make the 2 turns behind the building.
What I found out was the active handling system has to calibrate itself each time you start the car. It does this by traveling in a straight line for a given distance within a certain speed range. If this doesn't happen within a given time, you get the active handling warming up message to let you know active handling is not working. When the warm up complete is displayed, its the message to let you know its working and is active.
Parking garages are known to cause the messages. If the car can be started and driven straight ahead after start up and gets the message the steering wheel position sensor may be going bad.
Going by memory here on what I remember from researching it when I got the messages.

I get the "active handling warming up" when I drive less than 10mph in first gear. The warm up is complete a few minutes after. I sometimes get it driving down my street.
