Ok, so I will run though what happened today and I am hoping to get you guy to give me inputs on what you think might be going on.
Ok, I got home from work around 730 this morning, and I part the vette in my driveway, it had almost a full tank of gas, just filled it up on saturday. I went to bed, about 6 hours later I wake up and get ready for work again, when I go out to the car everything is normal. I start the car up, put it in reverse and start to back out of the drive way, and the car dies on me. It is an auto, so it is not due to bad driving skills. So I stop, put it back in park and restart the can, and again when I put it in reverse and start to roll it dies on me. At this point I notice that the gas tank is bone dry, and I have a check engine light on the dash, and a service traction system warning on the screen. I have had the car say it was empty before when i knew there was gas in it so I put it in nuetral and let it roll down to even road. At that point a warning on the screen said pull key and wait 10 seconds. I do that and restart the car and it starts but it still has the check engine light and the enpty tank. So I decide to go to the gas station and try putting gas in the can, it took a whole tank. I then went to the dealer to get the code read, but they had no techs there at the time so I was going to go to autozone to have it read, and when I restarted the car the engine light was out. By this point I was lat to work, so i took the vette home and took my wifes car.
I fell like I should mention that the car is running great, no issues. The only thing that I can think is that somehow in the middle of the day someone siphined out all of the gas and didnt put the gas cap back on all the way. Then after I filled it up, and reseated the gas cap and started it a few times it reset the engine light.
My main question is should I look further into this or if the light doesn't come back on just dont worry about it and alway part it in the garage...
Thanks to everyone that actually read through all of that, and any inputs are greatly appreciated.
Pull the codes from the DIC first. Don't have anyone read them with a reader. The procedures are listed on this forum. Then post those codes. Obviously though, if you filled the tank and it was dry later, it is either leaking out or it was stolen. Electrical gremlins will play havoc with this car so make sure your battery is fully charged too.
I'm going to assume you have not installed a column lock bypass in your car.
You have the ol' pull key 5 mph shut off 'fix' recall symptom.
Also known as the column lock bypass failure.
This is often caused by a weak battery.
A dirty key 'pellet' can also be the culprit, try another key.
Try putting a charger on the car and try again once you know it's fully charged.

Install a Column lock bypass ASAP.
It's 2 mph that is shuts down. If that's what it is, he must have some GM fix in already since they programmed that in on one of the recalls.
In my 97 the recall was completed. Then it failed and I had to buy a column bypass and never had a problem again. I have also heard of the bypass failing and having to be replaced.

You're right, it is 2 MPH, and having the GM 'fix' is not a good thing.
After rereading his post, he may have other issues. I'd still say he should get a CLB.

Check all the other things mentioned here too (especially pulling the codes), but if you know you had plenty of gas in the car when you last drove it, something happened - either a major leak or your gas got stolen. Certainly check that out as it could be a major safety hazard. Good luck.
Just in response to the siphoned gas possibility. If someone actually did siphon gas from the tank you would have had to have left the gas cap door wide open. The only way they could have gotten to the gas cap is by breaking into the car to press the gas door release button in the center console. I seriously doubt that someone stole your gas. I assume the car was locked.
Sounds more like battery gremlins, or column lock bypass issues. Empty reading on the tank is strange though.
Check the DIC codes which since you had a check engine light come on there should be stored codes in there which can help point you in the right direction.
I think I would be checking my gas receipt to make sure the tank was actually filled up.And I agree about how someone stole the gas if the car was locked.
