The temperature display on my climate control module has gotten so dim that it is nearly impossible to see. Once in awhile it gets brighter for a short period of time. I've heard there is a history of a grounding problem in this module that causes the dim display. Has anyone had this problem. If so, what is the fix? My car is an 04 Z06.
there's an article on how to fix it. i've successfully revived one before. short story is remove the controller, pull the board and inspect for cracked solder joints. reflow the solder and it comes back to life.
google c5 corvette hvac repair and or search on here, should come right up with pics of what i'm talking about
easiest way i found to do it is to put a spec of flux on the cracked joints and have just a little solder on the iron. when you hit it you'll get a good flow through in 1-2 seconds. this prevents excessive heat being introduced to the components
I removed the climate control module today and then removed the power supply board. After searching the forum for a solution to this problem, I found a picture of this board and instructions to resolder eight surface mount resistors. My board was different from the one in the picture. Mine had the eight resistors grouped together in the center of the board. Using a 5x lupe, I looked at each of the solder joints on these resistors and found one that was cracked. I resoldered all eight resistors and this fixed the problem. The temperature display is now bright again.
