Default Fuel pump trap door??

Hey all.. I was contemplating swapping out my fuel pump on my '03 Z06 because of new pretty loud "whining" it's making. It has the FFS in-tank setup. Has anyone tried the "trap door" method by pulling back the carpet above the DS tank cutting the floor instead of dropping the tank? Effectively making a stainless sheetmetal "door" to access the primary fuel pump. I'm hoping there are people that did this before and wrote about it and I'm not the first, or have people tried and failed for some reason? I used to be big into Fbodys and this is a common thing to do with them, which I've done before.

Don't tell me to "get it done right and drop the tank". I either want to know WHY it CAN'T be done or HOW it CAN be done.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance

Are you talking about cutting into the top of the fuel tank?

Dave - I've not seen that done on a C5. Not that it couldn't be done, just never seen it. Maybe someone else has and will post a detailed description or a link to how it's done.

on c5's, all you do is jack the car up, remove the left wheel wheel, then unbolt the wheel liner, and pumps right there. it slides out horizontally. to the rear

Ahhhh didn't catch the later model style. was assuming you meant a standard c5. as far as a trap door goes. On our f bodies we did em no problem but cutting up a vette i have a hard time.

i don't think all 03's have the 04+ style system, the op would have to check. i have never wrenched on an 03 but remember pics of an 03 that looked just like my 02

i thought there was 03 early and 03 late
