Default One Dumb Mistake After Another

It was very nice here in NW Mississippi Saturday afternoon. Had a church social to go to, so I took the top off. Nice day for a ride. Got home and just put the cover on the car, but left the targa off. Didn't touch it again until today when I decided to replace the oil pressure sensor. So, off with the cover, still no targa. As I was finishing up about 11pm, I realized that with all the june bugs flying around, some must have gotten in the car. Sure enough, there's one under the windshield stuck behind the dash. Won't come out. You can see it in the little area where the VIN number is. Broke the bezel for the HUD trying to get the vacuum nozzle in there to get the bug. RATZ!!! And to top it all off, the oil pressure sensor was not the source of the oil leak and it was an almost new Borg Warner which had only recently been put in. All that work and all I have to show for it is a June bug stuck under the windshield, a broken HUD bezel and still have the oil leak somewhere.

That sucks, I thought for a minute though you were going to tell a story about losing your targa top, So anyway it could always be worse.

I am still waiting on a rainy day to fix my cracked bezel. Not really a 20 minute job. Best of luck on finding that leak.

Thought we all had a cracked bezel for the HUD.

Some days should just be "do nothing day". Problem is identifying them early. Sorry about your bezel.

To reach bugs and dirt in those "hard to reach" places... Tape an ordinary drinking straw to the end tip of your vacuum. It will give you extra reach and a small nozzle for extraction.

Great idea.

To the OP - sounds like you had the same type of day I usually have - if it can go wrong, it will.

Sorry to hear of your problems...

I've long been convinced that most issues are caused by our own OOPS moments...

That straw is a great idea!

Compressed air is your friend when it comes to anything stuck behind the windshield and dash. Just get yourself a long nozzle and blow some compressed air in that area. Everything stuck behind there will come out. It worked for me. I had a parking stub stuck there laying right on top of the vin plate.

I agree with the compressor, if you've got one of course, I have the Porter Cable C2002 pancake model that's good for stuff around the house. Very handy to have.

I bought mine from a vendor here but can't recall who. It's longer than this one is but this is an example for those who want something to blow stuff they can't get to out of where it doesn't belong.

This link may be deleted by a mod, but maybe the vendor who sold me mine will post it for everyone.

Love the vacuum and compressed air ideas. Now...if someone could come up with an easy fix to the cracked bezel. I see that crack everytime I look at the otherwise semi-flawless great car. I had a friend suggest getting one of the better carpeted dash covers to just cover up the crack, but I would still know that it is there and it would bother me. I think when I get my new bezel I will reiforce the back of it in an attempt to prevent it from cracking in the future. Maybe some thin strong sheeting of somekind (screen, fiberglass, etc..) glued to the back and trimmed would help.

The dash on my dodge ram is cracked to the point it appears shattered. I put a cover on it and although I know it's still there, I have come to like it actually.

But I do understand a dodge pick up is NOT a Corvette either.

Soda straw is a great idea I never thought of. Thanx. I also have a compressor, so will try that in the future. Now to the cracked HUD bezel. Anyone know what's involved with replacement? I have a new one, but not sure how to go about replacement.

I've had straw wrapper stuck by the VIN plate for over a year now and could never get it out. I'm going to try some of the great ideas in this thread like the compressed air (never thought of that!)

Reading this thread, it sounds like the HUD bezel is prone to cracking? What is the cause of that? I'm going to go check mine today after I get off work. *cross finger

Sorry to hear about the OP problems. Sometimes when it rains, it pours.
