Just install some high quality HIDs and ballasts, or replace the projectors too? Later on I'm going to HID Headlights, to replace my T-84 with Halogens, but getting advice only for the fogs right now...
Bottom line, is the factory FOG projector good enough to use with a proper fitted HID? If they are good enough, will they hold up to 50 or 55 watt HIDs, or must I stick with 35s?
The factory housing will handle them just fine. I went with CorvetteMods 55W HID's and love them. They use the slim ballasts too so they are a breeze to install.
For those who have HID fogs: how do they actually work in FOG? We get a lot of it here.Have ACAs, so dont need the light for normal driving. Also, is the yellow tint better?

I read that "Fog Lights" by definition are supposed to be yellow so that the light does not reflect off the fog. However, over the years fog lights have become secondary driving lights mostly for looks vs. performance.
I installed 4300 temp HID fog lights to match up with my 4300 temp ACA HID low beams and they work fine in the OEM housings. Combined with my switchback LED corners, my "fog lights" act as secondary driving lights. I usually flip them on at dusk before I need headlights in order to improve my visibility to other drivers.

I'm unconvinced that yellow (3000K) fog lights are more effective than full spectrum headlights. For one, when I've had yellow lensed fog lights on my vehicles, I can't even tell if the lights are on or off when driving. The light output is greatly diminished. You can read up on some webpages about yellow lights vs. white lights in fog and read a variety of different opinions, but I'm convinced that the yellow light in theory is reflected less, but in practice the effect is barely measurable.
Either way, get some HIDs and pop them in and you should be happy
Funny, because fog lights or driving lights were "in" 10-15 years ago as most sportscars and sport sedans had them and many automotive models included them with premium packages.
Now it seems as though they are going away from a style perspective. Probably due to the integration of LEDs as introduced by Audi and now being incorporated into more designs like the C7.
I think fog lights started as a functional component but over the years evolved more into a style accent.
Driving through fog, yellow reflects less. It makes it easier to see ahead.
Now when driving, don't expect to see just as far as if there wasn't fog. It's not designed to be able to maintain the same speed. It simply helps you notice objects you can't see without light or with bright white light at a much slower pace.
I have an extra set of housings if anyone is interested... Also have an extra pair of HID bulbs... 6K... Willing to make a deal for both... PM me if interested...

Thanks!
The Euro ones are all Metal casing. I read on here somewhere that they are better with the higher 55W HID bulbs (able to take the heat better).
I'm still running 35W HID Fog bulbs though. These give me a comfort factor if I choose to go to 55W though.
