Has anyone ever heard of the top used locking nut backing off and now I have this clunking noise over bumps or dips in the road.
A little background, I bought new ZO6 shocks all around and new sway bar end links for my 99 C5. I went to my local Meineke which I've gone to for years to have this stuff installed. There wasn't any hardware included so the old nuts, washers needed to be used.
Everything was installed and I get in the car and drive away and I'm not 1/4 mile away and I hear this awful clunking coming from the front. Turn around and have them put it on the lift and Ed the mechanic who I know well says the top nuts back off causing the noise. Tightened them and went for a ride and even though better it's still there. **** me off I should have let well enough alone.
Parts house says he may have over torqued them and to get new locking nuts and washers, try that and if it doesn't work call him. Ed says get new shocks and this time new nuts and washers then send the old ones back.
I'm at a loss and don't know what to do. Has anyone had this issue and does anyone have a solution for me.
Something is amiss...my immediate thought is a defective shock due to improper install or factory defect, have them replaced and go from there. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply, I found an actual Corvette shop about a half hour from my home and gave a call and talked to the owner explaining my problem. I'm going to go there tomorrow and hope they can solve this issue.
