Default The C5 Map

It's amazing to me that so many folks with valid member id's have marked the map. Currently 322 of us.

The continents not represented are Africa, Australia, and Antarctica of course. One wise guy marked Antarctica but that didn't last long.

There's still a major divide in the US that seems to run right down the Mississippi strangely enough.

Has anyone actually made use of it?

I was going to make use of it for my trip to ECS a few weeks ago but there wasn't much free time on the trip down and back to meet up with anyone... Though I wish there was

I do plan on using it in the future for any trips I make.

It is an excellent tool to have, and a nice way to show how spread out (or not) we really are! Thank's for taking the time and creating it Steve! Much appreciated

Thanks. It was no problem. I think it interesting to see where folks are around the globe. And the divide down the Miss. really boggles my mind. (Although some would say that's a trivial task)

I attempted to input my data but the map software is insisting that I provide an email address as well as a name. I'm happy to provide my forum name, but not comfortable including my personal email details in a public searchable document. Is this new and if I provide my email address who can access it?

My apologies. I had a box checked for the short marker entry form that I hadn't intended.

The only thing I really do check is that somewhere in the marker name, there is a valid CF user id. If there's no valid CF id there then I use the email, if provided, to try and contact the person and get it fixed. If I can't contact them then I just delete the marker.
As for who can see the emails, I honestly don't know. I do because I'm the admin but not sure about others.

Edit: I just checked and I have it set so that the only person who should be able to see the email or phone fields are the marker owner and me. I have *not* tested that though.

<sigh> It's been pointed out to me that there are in fact markers on the map that do not have valid CF id's in the name field.

I checked and the method I was using to check the marker names omitted something.

Soooooo.... I will be going back over and checking all of the markers to ensure a valid CF id is being reflected.

All invalid markers that have email id's with them will receive an email from me regarding the marker. Invalid markers withoug email addresses will just be removed.

Sorry for the screw up but as I've seen so far, if just let go sadly some people will intentionally put false markers. Why? I'm not even gonna go there...

Maybe you could log out and search the map and see what info comes up- as though you weren't a cf member?

Thanks, I have done that and I can still see the email field. I never thought it was all that big of a deal given email addresses are pretty much everywhere today.

I do have the options checked to not show the email and phone number fields in the balloon popups. Could someone please look at the details page of my information (calvins) and let me know if you can see my email? If you can, I'll contact the software provider.

Thanks

No email or ph# comes up for you.

You location, pic of car, real first name, directions ... that's it.

Thanks! That's good news. They must be using cookies or some other method and know that it's "me" so I can see the email, etc. I didn't bother to go so far as clearing cache and cookies when I tried it.

But that would indicate that the info is safe for those who are concerned. Trust me, I sure as h*77 won't use it unless there's a marker issue.

Can't get the full map to show up on my screen, just a narrow little slice of it.

ok, don't take this the wrong way but, did you try using the + and - pointers in the upper left hand side of the map?

Not seeing any pointers, but I am really old and probably a little senile.
