This is what you get when using an aftermarket CV Half-Shaft made by A-1 Cardone at the track. The shaft and dimensions are all the same but the boot rubber is thinner than the GM stock unit. Everything was good until I ran Sebring and the boot expanded; at that point, the boot "grabbed" the rear brake line (resides close to the shaft Left side), twisted it around the shaft and then proceeded to cut thru it. After calling A-1 Cardone twice, they had no interest to hear about the problems with their inferior product. I then called Rock Auto (where I purchased it from) and they were happy to return my money upon receipt of the shaft.
I had read once before about someone having the same problem with this aftermarket shaft but choose to ignore it... my bad!
So, stick to the more expensive GM part and save your life in the process.

Yep, there has been plenty of write ups in this regards.
you can get by with the shaft/boot that you installed, but no high speed racing.
GM sells a boot kit, that isn't the hardest of jobs but by no means is the easiest of jobs either.
Kit comes with 1 boot, 2 clamps , a cir clip & a bottle of poly grease,
all for around $55.-$60 bucks.
Thanks for posting. I had not heard of this before. I installed the GM replacement boot kit from the dealer and then later found I could have bought the whole axle online for about the same price. Now I'm glad I got the GM boot kit.
Getting ready to do mine. I bought the aftermarket CV Half-Shaft made by A-1 Cardone from NAPA. Luckily, my friend told me about this incident and I will be returning it tomorrow and heading over to GM....
