hey guys, i'm thinking about painting my brake calipers soon and was wondering what kind of jack you guys recommend using for this, i'm just looking for something that can jack a wheel up at a time and be sturdy.
also, since i would be down there i thought i might lower the vette on the stock bolts. trying to lower it around 1 inch, if thats possible with the stock bolts. anyways, anyone whos done any of this any input would be nice, thanks
Try Harbor Freight they have a few low profile jacks that you can't go wrong with, also I suggest jacking pucks, so you don't crush any rocker molding. For safety sake get some jack stands also.
You may get 3/4 of an inch out of it .... There is a ton of info on here as to how to jack the car up , I highly advise you to read this info before attempting the use of a floor jack

I use a Craftsman low profile aluminum jack on mine and it works fine. I always use jack stands to supplement the safety aspect of working under the car. Harbor Freight also makes a good floor jack for the car.
As far as lowering goes, I have a Word file that goes into detail on what you need to do. Unfortunately it is too large to make as an attachment here on the forum. If you'd like a copy, just PM me your e-mail address.

Jack: You want me to put it out on the download site?
Have a HF low profile jack, homemade jacking pucks and JACK STANDS
NEVER!!!!! I repeat NEVER!!!!! get under a car or wheel and trust a jack to hold it up. ALWAYS use jack stands after jacking and I keep the jack there too after lowering the car onto the jack stands. Pump it back to just start to assume the load from the jack stands.
Have had several jacks slip and if I was under the car or the wheel rotors would have been TOAST. Made jacking pucks from hockey pucks, eye bolts and nuts from Home Depot. Also have a bad wagon wheel which I slide under the frame if I am going under the car. If all else fails the car will stop with the wagon wheel as a jack stand.
