Considering a 2004 Coupe. Very low mileage, original tires. Problem is the tires are very loud. Lots of tire noise at any speed. Dealer shrugs his shoulders?? If I decide to purchase this vette, it looks like I will be replacing the tires. Will this help? Nine year old tires must be getting hard? New costing around $1700 installed. Advise?? Thanks
Runflats are a loud tire! The noise you describe seems normal. They also have a very hard sidewall (necessary to work as "runflats") and ride a bit rough!
Some love em some hate em. I personally don't use runflats on my car because the ride is a bit too hard and noisy for me. But a new set of rubber, runflat or not might be a good idea.
Yes, they are loud but you have to ask yourself, what would you do on if you got a flat at the worst time? People carry on about inflator kits with plugs or the goo thing. Either way, those tiny air compressors take FOREVER to inflate one, assuming you could patch it on the side of the road. OR, you could have some MONKEY towtruck driver come out and try to tow your car. Think I'll stick with runflats, there are some other vendors besides goodyears that are quieter.

If those are the original tires, then yes, it is probably normal for them to be quite loud by now. If you want to stick with runflats, Michelin makes a very good tire - much better than the Goodyears.
Or you can do like many members here have done and get non-runflats. Yes, you take a chance if you have a flat but the difference in ride, handling and reduced noise level is worth it IMO. I do carry a compressor and plug kit plus I have emergency road service on my car insurance. A flat can happen any time and heaven knows it could be at the worst possible time/location, but in all honesty I've only had one flat in well over 13 years of driving C5s.
Do what you feel comfortable doing. If you want runflats and the ones on the car need replacement, factor that in on your offer on the car. If the dealer won't budge on the price or put new tires on, you may have to be ready to walk and look elsewhere for a car that does not need tires.

i've got run flat michelins and i think they're great, i honestly don't notice them being any louder than other car's tires i've ridden in but thats just me.
as for your tires being loud, i'm no expert but my best guess would be them just being old
My FRC had Kumho Run-Flats on it when I bought it and I had to drive it an hour and a half home and it was LOUD!! I put Nitto 555's on all four corners that same week for $750 installed and they were much much quieter, but now since they're on their last leg (25,000 miles of a lot of spirited daily driving) they're getting pretty noisy again.

Very good point. See if they will swap the tires for you. That would be ideal!

You can buy very nice tires for much less than that, and the dealer can buy them for less than you can. If you decide to buy the car and the dealer won't replace the tires, offer to split the actual cost of the tires with him.
Shouldn't 9 year old tires be replaced as a safety issue? I've seen lots of posts here about 10 year old tires being unsafe, nine aren't much different.
For one thing, they are old Goodyear runflats. They're probably noisy as hell! Don't base your opinion on those pieces of garbage. There are other runflats that aren't much noisier than regular tires. Michelins are what I'm running now. I've run Kumhos, too. I actually liked the Kumhos better. Whatever you do, DO NOT put another set of Goodyear runflats on there. I've had 3 flats with the runflats and I wouldn't have even known if it had not come up on the computer in front of me. I'll take good runflats any day over regular tires

I hated my original Goodyear runcraps...hard and bumpy...2 years ago I went with Hankook V12s and I realty like them and they are half the price you speak of
Run flats are loud . . . 9 year old run flats are hard, loud and ought to be replaced ASAP . . .Nitto 555's are $750 out the door at Discount . . . Michelin run flats are $1600 . . .AAA is $140/yr.
All tires make noise... Some tires make more noise than others, A C5 is not designed to be quiet. With the windows down, the tires are two feet from your ears.
Old tires, hard tires, run flat tires are all very noisy. Soft tires make noise too, just not as much. there is no such thing as a truly quiet tire. Many luxury cars have 300 to 400 lbs of sou8nd proofing and a metal body
