I've been thinking i want to purchase an in car camera just to take nice videos and also for in case of accidents and such. I have seen some have the gopro and i think it is a nice video camera but looks kind of bulky. What is the best video camera for your car in your opinion? I would like something i could leave on while driving and then either download to my laptop or maybe a video card in it but not sure if they make them big enough to record more than an hour of video or so before having to change the card out. any ideas? thx
Stephen at Englandgreen, turned me on to a sweet one, I have not been able to catch it in stock yet, but he has it installed in his ride and its bad to the Bone, I'll dig up the link k.
The only one I've had is the gopro hd hero2. I like it because it has a lot of aftermarket support and uses sd cards. If I do in car shots, I suction cup it to my rear window and have never really thought that it got in my way/hindered my rear vision much. I have a 32gig card, it will hold over 4.5 hrs recording in 720p @ 60 frames per second. I saw in one of my car magazines a while ago that did a comparison for 'action sports' cameras, and the gopro came out on top.

Cool thx, Appreciate the replies I am looking them up as you guys post the different types
I recently bought a new (discontinued) Contour GPS. Great camera! 1920x1080, 30 fps, 125 degree viewing angle at this resolution. 135 degree max. angle.
The narrow viewing angle was the big selling point for me. No noticeable "fish-eye" effect. I use it for track days.
Another camera to check out, even though it is a little bit pricier is the Blackvue DR500. Its an actual dashcam. A co-worker of mine has it and after seeing it, its on my list of thing to get.
If you want one like this and have lots of time to wait, check out Aliexpress dot com. They have 1080p ones for less than 20 bucks and free shipping. I bought something from them and it took five weeks to arrive, from hong kong.

lol I hear ya but for 25 more I can get quality that rivals way more expensive stuff. That saying you get what you pay for doesn't always apply. Some things are just overpriced.
I've had a shoebox full of cheap eBay dash cams. They crap out in a few months left in the sun. They either stop charging (so you lose the real time clock) or the display dies. The video quality is bad with huge compression. The worst thing is that they usually use knock off Nokia batteries, which tend to explode. Also the power supplies interfere with FM radio.
I'm looking for something more durable and reasonably priced ($100-$200) that can hide behind the rear view mirror. I haven't found it yet.
My JVC Adixxion produces great HD video , but the sound is not that great , but neither is gopro. It is small , uses the standard 1/4 20 mount , so there are plenty of mounting options , uses sd card , waterproof and no outer case to worry about ....Buy it , try it , if you don't like it , take it back.

Go http://www.szswill.com and have a look, both HD720P and HD1080P car cameras available, all are mini size, no need to worry about recording hours, you can use a 8G/16G/32G SD card for storage, a 16G SD card can record about 8 hours for a HD720P car camera, all devices support loop recording.
