Oh yes insurance can cover the cost. But first your responsible for the deductible so no matter what $500 comes from my pocket. Why alert them. NY roads ill save that claim for newer rims n tires sooner or later LOL.
On some policies, you don't have a Ded on Comp, or a smaller one, as well as it is not held against you as it is below 2000.
It happens. I haven't had the top on my cars in 2 years. I bought a light weight fabric top for when I park it in the garage or store it, but that comes off in April and stays off until I put it away in October.
Let me check. I've had it for several years. It's not designed to stay on while you're driving, but I think it's designed to keep the rain out if you're parked for a short period of time. There are suction cups on both sides to keep the wind from blowing it off. Keep in mind I've never used mine for anything except keeping the dust out of my car when I park it in the garage and when I store it. Here's a quick picture I just took.
Happened to me only a few weeks after purchasing mine... Was very lucky that it only scraped the corners on the bottom (it landed perfectly on the bottom) with no scratches, cracks, or even leaks. A little touch up paint and it's hard to tell that it ever happened.
I now check the latches every time I get in the car before putting on my seat belt as a habit.
It almost happened to me I heard it vibrating and was about to come off I was going about 30...Around 35 is when is goes whoooosh is what I hear around here. You can get another one for around 500. It sucks but it could of been worst.

That's exactly what I want it for. Just to keep the dust out when parked . Where can I get one ?
Funny , things also start flying off at about thirty five with a convertible. The positive is that you don't have to return to the scene of stupidity, the things is attached.
It took me a couple of mistakes to modify my behavior.

The C6 convert has a warning system if it's not latched. Well at least the power tops do. I don't know about the non power tops.
