I am having trouble getting the drain petcock open on my radiator. The shop manual is too vague. I am having difficulty figuring out what is the correct tool that won't slip and which way to turn the plug. I seem to remember there was something unusual about how it comes out but I'm not finding the info I need.

Usually the plastic stopper is so brittle from heat that it breaks up. A thumb drive replacement is available at most parts stores.

Okay, I got it out to drain the tank fully. Now, how do you get the drain plug out to replace it? For those who pull the hose it looks like you'd be leaving some liquid below the hose outlet.
