Well I bought my first Corvette last weekend. Actually, the first car I have purchased in over 10 years. A Blk/Blk 2003 Z06.

I have been driving a 99 Trans Am for the past 10 years and 250K miles. The Trans Am has been such a great car, but I figured it was time for an upgrade. The Corvette is soooo nice. I like.

I already bought my first "mod." I bought some projector style headlights from a forum vendor to replace the cloudy old "sealed beam" type ones it comes with. I am actually excited to get these in lol.

It came with a fancy Kenwood stereo/dvd/head unit/navigation that I really want to replace with the stock one. I wonder if a forum member still has their stock radio/cd player to sell/trade?

The only "issue" I have is that everytime I start the car I get a "SERVICE COLUMN LOCK" message. I will have to look into that.

Anyway I have had the car for five days and I am just in love with this thing. Very happy and be here and hello to everyone.

Hey! Congrats on the gorgeous Z! Very sharp

Order a Column Lock Bypass ASAP! That's like the first thing any C5 owner should do. Otherwise you could get stranded. It's like 30-40 bucks I think. I got mine years ago from Corvettes of Houston... Don't wait buddy!

Take care and enjoy!

Congrats on the Vette and welcome to the forum!

This will give you a bunch of info on your 'service column lock' message. Yes you need to address this ASAP!

Nice Z06. Congrats.

Get the Service Column Lock fixed ASAP or you will regret it.

There is a service recall for this issue and I am surprised the previous owner did not take care of it already.

Drive it to a GM dealer and they can address it for you.

Thanks everyone! I'm certainly looking into the CLB stuff now. I can't wait to get off work so I can go for a drive--and take the loooooong way home.

Any pics/details about the "Kenwood stereo/dvd/head unit/navigation" in the car?

Congratulations on the Z!! Heed the advice of either installing a Column Lock Bypass or get an lmc5 module from http://www.complianceparts.com/products.html

There's a sticky thread on it either in general or tech. check it out.

BUT, do NOT go to the dealer for the recall. It won't do squat for your Z. The changes they made fixed the autos but NOT standards. ALL C5 standards are still exposed to the column lock so the CLB or LMC5 solutions are the goto items.

Most of the lock issues are caused by a bad battery condition or one that's in process of going bad. I believe that's covered in the sticky as well.

Good luck. Let us know how you make out.
