Default Sickspeed Auto shift adaptor install?

Sickspeed sold me an adaptor and ball shifter for my A4 but sent no instructions. They pointed me to a Youtube video that was useless as it wasn't for a C5 or even close to what we have.

It looks like the adaptor uses 2 allen set screws to pinch the release lever but without doing something to the shift boot, it doesn't even come close to fitting over the retainer for the top of the boot.

I hope somebody out there has been here before and can clue me in as the vendor can't seem to....

i'm in the same boat. got one from sickspeed as well and when i put it on it didn't seem to be working properly. got it on one time and it moved thru the gears but when i put it back in park it didn't lock in and i couldn't remove my key from the ignition so i took the adaptor off and just left the stock one on for now. going to try it again tomorrow and see how it goes. if i figure it out i'll be sure to post back on here

To remove there is a U clip you have to pull out, It is facing the radio, Once that is out the **** should pull right up and off.

Not sure what adaptor you have, The one I have has 2 allen screws in it, You set the adaptor on the shifter and tighten the set screws even so you have no bind when toy push the button, The **** should just screw on.

Here is a file on the install on the one I have.

It looks to me that there is something under the plastic washer that anchors the boot. It almost feels like a tie wrap...maybe it's just the material gathered up in there. I haven't pulled the boot away yet....was hoping to get more info on that step.

On mine there is a collar that slides down on the adaptor after you put the top of the boot around the adaptor..

i'm just trying to figure out how far to slide the adaptor on to get it to work, like it said i had it going thru the gears but when it got into park i couldn't get the key out. so i don't know if the adaptor was to high or low on the shift rod

On mine the adaptor went down as far as it could, It should just drop on to its spot, The tricky part is the 2 screws, They have to be tightened the same amount so the center shaft will push down and come up on its own with out any binding.

thanks for all the info. so when i put the adaptor on it said to twist until it dropped into place, which for me dropped like a cm but i could tell it was in the groove. do i tighten it right there or should i push the adaptor down more after the initial drop and then tighten it?

You want the adaptor resting on the spring before you tighten up the set screws, That way when you push the **** down you can get it into park and what not.

well i've still not gotten this to work. put the adaptor on and tighten it to the shift rod, looks like it goes into the gears gets back in park and doesn't release the key, loosen the adaptor and i hear a click which i guess is the shift rod going into place, then i take the adaptor off and i can get the key out. i'm real close to just saying the heck with it and keeping the stock one

As I said before, The 2 screws have to be even, If it is one side more it will bind up, You have to adjust the 2 screws to where you have no bind.. If they are not centered that will cause a bind and will not release.

You and I have the same problem. I figured out that the smaller bore in the adaptor, which goes around the 2 metal ears surrounding the shift plunger was machined too small and is binding. I am having a friend at a machine shop open that up a few thousands and that should make it smooth.

Apparently something in their manufacturing process changed, maybe added plating.

Ok, I have it working perfectly. The hole had to be opened to 1/2 inch exactly. The shifter was binding but with the .020 removed, it's all set.
