Default Update on 90mph wind damage

Well GEICO did me a solid and came through with more than I expected. They are replacing the wheels on the LH side but since the damage is not visible and they're polished aluminum, I figure I can buff out the pits myself and I had the body shop skip the wheels and repaint the whole car instead of blending the paint into the RH side. I'm pretty excited about a whole new paint job! I've visited her twice since leaving with the body shop and took a couple of phone pics of the progress. Moving a little slow for my taste but as long as they do a good job I'll be patient.

After one week...

After two weeks...

I hate seeing her like this but can't wait to see the results. I'll post some shots when it's finally finished.

Looks like they are trying to do a good job, I hope they are covering the interior (dust) I know it can be cleaned up, but easier to cover than clean.
I bet your excited

Looks like the body shop is making good progress. No sense rushing the job - you want it perfect. Good luck getting it finished up.

Thanks Everyone. I was surprised they were hand sanding. I figured they would glass bead it so I'm happy with the effort. Hopefully another week and I get my baby back! Maybe I'll stop by Friday and see if the primer's on.

Default finally got my baby back!

Picked her up yesterday after work. Looks really good. I'm almost afraid to drive it! There's no road rash anywhere. The wheel wells are pristine and shiny. I can't wait for the 60 days to pass so I can get some Zaino on it! Here's some pics. the first are from a week ago with the paint complete but no color sand or buffing done yet. After picking it up I went to pick up my wife from work and shot a couple of pics in the parking lot.

Quick! Get the whole thing Clear Bra'd!

Looks awesome! With all the nightmare I've had in the past year or so relating to paint work done on my '01, I'd love to just get the whole car repainted, but I'm holding off til I'm done finding body mods I want!

Exactly how I feel. I hate the thought of accumulating more road rash but as my DD I know it's coming eventually. Good luck with all your mods. Just be prepared when you do have it painted to be separated from it for a long time. They had mine for 5 weeks. When I finally got it back it was like when I first bought it and drove it home. The same kind of excitement.

Looks great and glad your back on the road. Hate to ask, but did they raise your insurance rates after this payout?

Thanks. No, actually, since I had no culpability, there will be no increase in rates. I was very impressed with GEICO. The rates are extremely low and other than a few communication glitches initially, they more than met any expectations I might have had at restoration. I believe I'll move my wife's car to them also, even if it means losing the multi policy discount with my homeowner carrier.

Good to hear they treated you right. I (and I am sure you too) have heard of some real bad deals for folks dealing with insurance companies. I understand they are in the business to make money and cannot run at a loss, but sometimes the way they treat folks is downright wrong. Thankfully, I have not had any claims in many years (wood table right next to me so I knocked on it). I had one buddy that had ever had a claim with his insurance company over many years. He had one accident that was not his fault that totaled his car. The company paid up, but then quickly canceled his policy. From talking with him I guess (don't know for sure) that once you get canceled it is somewhat of a black mark on your record that other companies can see in that big insurance company database in the sky. Great to hear it worked out for you and I hope for many more trouble free miles with that great looking car.
