Default Good guy/Bad guy

Sunday, my wife and I drove the "Vette to Watkins Glen. Very enjoyable ride. In town, we parked on N Franklin and visited some
shops. when I returned to the car I found a note indicating that someone had backed into the car. No, the note wasn't from the driver that hit my car. Instead it was from someone who witnessed the event. The witness listed the vehicle make, state and license number of the offending vehicle and the witness's phone number.

Fortunately, after removing the bra I could find no damage to the Corvette. Later a store clerk told me that the witness was concerned enough to get pen and paper from her to record the info and then place it on my window.

I was very lucky to not have sustained damage to my car. But luckier still that stand-up guys like Eric exist.

How cool is that! Better yet, your car was OK! I'd make a thank you call, but also call the police just in case something shows up later.

I would report it for sure. If he did it to you he will do it to someone else. I am in Law Enforcement and absolutely hate people who do hit and runs. They usually drive a POS and don't care much about their own cars.

I think you owe someone a nice bottle of wine. And someone else a nice knock on the door from a Peace Officer.

If you didn't report it to law enforcement immediately after it happened AND with no visible damage to photograph, the chance of filing a report with police/sheriff is remote. Glad no damage though and the witness could become a new Christmas card recipient.

The person that hit your car should get a visit from an LEO - and hopefully would get a good azz chewing. Great that your car did not have any damage. That witness definitely deserves a thank you.

I'm not certified in recognizing damage after removing a bra, but if it was my car, I'd want it checked by a body shop. If it turns out there was frame damage, etc, at least there'd be a police report on file to begin an insurance claim.

If there was no damage to the vehicle, there's nothing the police can do.

Next time you're in Watkins Glen, park behind the County Office Building. Always safe back there (the Sheriff's office is there) & not many people park there on weekends.

Happy there are people like the witness still out there. Count me as another one who think yous should report it. Maybe the offender will at least get a ticket? Might cause them to be more careful from now on.

I live in Chicago and have had my car backed into by parallel parkers more times than I can count. Currently, I've received 0 notes...

I think in some states the police at least send a notice that they have been identified by a citizen to have allegedly committed an infraction - just as a "courtesy," so to speak, with hopes that they try to be more careful in the future.

Will it work with everybody? Of course not. Will it work with some? Of course!

As I seem to recall, major municipalities do have a Belated Motor Vehicle Accident Report form.

Not that it makes any difference.

Lady rolled back into me a few years ago, no "apparent" damage, later in the week very fine paint cracks started to appear in the clearcoat. No way did your bumper "flex" and no damage happened.

Just saying.....FYI, take it in to bodyshop for a "real" inspection.

Had the same thing happen to my '88. Took about a week till the cracks showed. Was a very light tap as well.
