Default I tried something on my reverse lights, PICS inside

I was bored this Sunday morning and decided to mess around with some stuff I had around the house.

I figured I would apply some mirrored tint to my reverse lights.

I am not a professional at applying tint so I apologize for the quality, but you get the idea.

I am not sure I like it yet, but I figured I would share....

You need to take some pics from further away so we can see the contrast/effect.

The film has a tendency to wrinkle and the reflective properties show this very well.

A better choice would be to use a solid sheet with the optical properties you're after (aka surveillance mirrors)

This could be cut to the desired size:

Could be a problem at night. Cars following you will have their headlights reflected back at them. Sounds pretty dangerous to me.

Looks very reflective and I fear some of the problems suggested above.

Trucks still have chrome bumpers and that's not a problem.

Trucks don't have flat, mirrored surfaces angled upward. The backup lights are about headlight height but would reflect upward, into the following car's windshield. There will be a distance between the two vehicles at which the following vehicle will be blinded.

I'll bet there is a law to this effect, just as it's illegal to fit rear facing driving lights (in order to dissuade tailgaters). The OP may get away with it, but at what cost?

The bumpers on a truck are higher than the windshield of a Vette. The Vette is low. It was a stupid post.

Not feeling it. It cheapens the look of the car IMO. Sort of like those plastic chrome styling effects you can pick up at Autozone hanging next to the cash register.

What they said.

On the plus side however, it does show that you're letting your creative-side come into play by looking for ways to personalize your car.

I have to agree. Not all our ideas pan out the way we envision them but kudos for experimenting and thanks for posting it up. Of course, photos don't always tell the whole story. It may look great in real life. All that really matters is if you like it.

It might tie in better if you added some Stainless "CORVETTE" inserts in the rear bumper to break up the shininess.

Thank you all for the feedback, I didn't like them at first, but they are growing on me. I may end up doing as radioflyer suggested if I make it permanent. A far as nighttime reflectivity, this is not my primary vehicle and isn't often driven at nighttime, also the reflectivity is at its maximum when you are directly in front of them, otherwise they look almost transparent, so I am not overly concerned with that at this time, Overall I am going for a black, red and chrome theme. I think they might look less tacky after I complete some future enhancements (window tint, black outs, raised chrome corvette lettering etc).

Looks cheesy to me, but it's your car, so if you like it, it's all good.
