Ok so I have a 2001 Z06 which I have owned for six months. I still owe about $10k on it so my funny money is slim for now. I did drop about $1,500 on a SLP Blackwing CAI, steel braided brake hoses, Hawk pads, and an extra set of wheels with scrubbed road racing slicks. Yes I am resourceful and always wait for a good deal. I did all of that so I could road race it occasionally. Truth is that I did that for six years in my Cobra and am a bit burnt out now. I have a $1,500 car hauler and those wheels/tires which I could probably turn for about $2,000-2,500 now. That would allow me to do LTs, x-pipe, tune and some used drag racing slicks for the rear. More of my buddies have time/cash for drag racing than road racing. I wouldn't beat on the car often, maybe 3-4 times at most a year to hang out with the guys and there is a drag strip about 30 minutes away. Do you guys think I should sell my road racing tires/wheels and car hauler to make the swap? I really hate the way the car sounds right now with the stock exhaust.

Keep checking the parts for sale forum on here for deals on a catback and a set of LT's. If you are not in that big of a hurry you'll eventually find a good deal on these parts. (I did) Used slicks and drag radials come up for sale quite often too. Good luck in your search.
I prefer road racing. I try to get my car out to Sebring Intl. a few times a year! I couldnt imagine having more fun then when I am out on the track. Do some mods with the car to increase handling and braking. I started with swaybars and loved the difference! Also use the slicks to go to autocross events. I know they are not the best, but they work and keep wear off your street tires.
BTW I bought a used set of LT headers from LGM off of ebay for $230......
Id say we might be in competition for the most resourceful lol
good luck and id be more than happy to answer any questions!
First thing you want to consider, is bang for the buck. Install a cam kit with the headers, and you'll enjoy the exhaust sound tenfold. A bigger cam not only greatly improves performance, it gives a swagger to your idle, when you have a nice exhaust system. You can even keep the cats (HF) if you don't have too much overlap. Of course, the downside is; you'll probably start breaking stuff.
I would say keep the car hauler either way. Save up and do mods when you can. I could drive my car to the track, but about the time I left my truck and trailer at home would be the time I needed it.
