Default Corvette Cleaning 101

I bought my '99 2 years ago and love it. Just over 100K miles on it now and I am finally out of my apt and into a house with a garage. I want to do a full cleaning on it. I have done interior and exterior many times so I am talking more of engine cleaning (throttle body, intake, engine block, etc). I would love some instructions and tips on how to do it well and what to use. Any tips for interior and exterior cleaning are also welcome.

Subscribing to this thread.

I had a heck of a time just with the wheel rims getting the brake dust off. I must have been using the wrong product.

Youtube has a bunch of videos posted by Junkman. He takes cleaning to an extreme.

It would prob be best if you tell us how much time you want to put into detailing your car. Basic wash/wax should take around 3hrs for an average joe, if you want to get into polishing that could wayyy up there.

Twice a year I do a full detail which includes:

-Removing wheels/cleaning wheel wells
-Degreasing undercarriage
-Degreasing engine
-Remove Tail lights
-Pop Up headlights for cleaning
-1 step Polish
-2 coats of Paint Sealer
-Dress all exterior trim, engine, etc

-Clean AC vents with paintbrush + shopvac
-Remove seats for cleaning
-Clean doorjambs
-Dress all rubber moldings, boots, weather-stripping, seals etc

Tips:
-Degrease car while its raised from removing wheels
-Tape black trim with painters tape before polishing/waxing
-Clean wheels first
-Use 2 bucket method for washing
-Cover the alternator in engine bay before cleaning
-Use light water pressure when cleaning engine
-Be mindful of electronics in engine bay
-Use a leaf blower to blow out the water in the engine bay and exterior before drying

Have fun, take your time, hell break it up into two days if needed

Andrew,

Chek out the Adam's Polishes web site for many helpful videos. They are just up the road from you in Louisville and have several clinics every year at their facility and at shows around the state and country. I believe they are the officially licensed GM Corvette and Camero detail company.

I will post a couple of web addys for them. I believe they are board vendors so it should be no problem.
