Buying and selling C-5s for several years, since you asked.
Most owners overvalue the selling prices by several thousand dollars. I'm guessing you're one of them.
Go to ebay, select sold vehicles and narrow down to a 00 vert, will give a good idea what they actually sell for, markets kinda crap at present.
Supercharged vert a few weeks ago couldn't move at 15k here. C5s are good deals at present lots and lots of um at 15k, and there not flyin off the shelves.
I just did a quick search of sold 2000 verts, there were 13 cars, from a lingenfelter at 37k down to a 62k car that was the only one of the 13 that actually sold at 12.7k.
Most all the others never made the reserve.
They made a zillion C5s, they are not collector cars. And now with model change lots of folks are dumpin there cars to move up to C6s and such.
It doesn't cost much to advertise, and you may find a someone that falls in love with your ride. Price it at $18-19000 and hope someone thinks they're stealing it at $16-17 thousand.

Not a bad strategy at all. You might be lucky to get it sold at $17K but you never know.

Would like to know where you come up with your $5000-$7000 difference in value between the same equipped 2000 or 2002 Vert. Not Edmonds, not KBB, not NADA. But hey, you must know, you buy & sell them all the time. Right?
car would likely move on ebay at 16.5k within a week or two
that's nada clean trade which is usually low MMR
if it's a nice car getting 1k over clean trade usually isn't too difficult. just depends on how quick you want to get off it
most any serious buyer will give clean trade in a snap for a nice car.
i would imagine 16.5k would sell in a week
17.5k might, may take longer. above that you're looking for the right buyer and retailing....which dealers still get. a dealer would get 20 out of your car after a good detail, fixing any age related issues and servicing
i'm not sure i would price high and hope. the buyers you want aren't stupid and if you said "willing to take nada clean trade" you would attract people. advertise at 16.5 and stay firm at 16.5k.
most people do advertise 2k over which make buyers think....man i'm gonna have to haggle.
if you're a good salesman advertising at the price you want works great. i've done it on my past 3 cars. just have a real straight talk with the buyers and explain where the number came from. you may have a guy or two fixated on talking you down...let them go, they would talk down a $5 car.

You're exactly right.
2000s and below bring considerably less than the later years. Knowledgeable people understand the difference. The books pretty much are simply tools for retailers to rip off those looking to buy at full retail. Very few dealers and customers know enough about Vettes to understand value. Dealers simply look at P/L, Vette buyers look at their dreams.
