If you had a leak you would smell it. If your that worried about mpg you should trade it in for a prius.
Ha! I really don't worry about the mileage, I just don't like the idea of pouring gas on the ground. Both from a monetary and environmental standpoint.
Plus, I figure better safe than sorry. A gas leak can lead to a thing...what's it called...um....fire! Yeah, that's it!
I also think that if you had a leak of this magnitude you would definitely smell it.
I'm thinking you've got the fuel sending unit sulfur issue. Try some Techron and see what happens.
I ran two bottles of Techron through the last tank, and nothing. Would the fuel sending unit cause the DIC to read really high?

Not if I believe the FSM: the 'Average MPG' readout is calculated from the amount of gas actually used by the engine, not the amount of gas left in the tank. Otherwise, the readout would spike to some insane value after a fill-up if you didn't reset it.
But a bad sending unit would affect the 'Range' calculation.

Exactly. This is why I am suspicious of a leak. The DIC is accurate over short trips, but on a whole tank, it gets WAY off. Six mpg or more off. if it was that the DIC was calculating incorrectly, it should be off no matter how much I drive on the tank of gas.
Like i've said before, I don't care if the DIC is off (It's a Vette, I'd be very pleased with 20 mpg), I just don't want to be pouring gas on the ground if I can help it at all.
