Default Z Questionz

I'm going to look at a 2001 Z06 on Friday. It has about 85k miles. I'm not familiar with Z's.... The one I'm going to look at is in good shape, but not a show car, which is fine with me because I plan on autoxing with it and hope to make a road coarse that is a couple of hours from me. (This is why I want something with a manual tranny... & lighter weight doesn't hurt either. )

What do I need to look out for?

I know on my 01 Coupe, I had to repair ABS unit. I assume I could possibly get into the same problem with an 01 Z.

Steering column lock issues, too? Bearings, pulleys & tensioners? Oil pressure switch? I assume these issues could pop up as with the coupe....

Does a Z have skip shift?

Will my Hotchis bars i put on my coupe fit the Z & will it be better than the Z bars?

How can I reliably bump the horsepower up to later Z specs? Cam, etc?

I'm sure there are numerous posts regarding these issues. No, I haven't searched yet. So if you know of a good post, please point me to it.

Thanks in advance.

I Got 01 Z and love it, don't know personaly how it feels to a non Z vette but any Z owners u ask on here they've tell you over and over go for the Z ....You can do anything to it as long u got $$$$ ...My first mod it be good intake , a set of LT's and a good tune and u be close to 02 Z power,..but if u want to do a road course and all that u might need to do more upgrades for your suspention and better cooling for the engine. ..just research there's a lot topics on here about this..

Some 01's have minor oil consumption issues.

Yes, possibly.

They'll definitely fit. They're also stiffer than stock Z bars, but they're balanced differently, so it depends on your setup whether or not they'll be "better". I have them on mine with 265/35-18 front tires and 305/30-19 rear tires, and it's very well balanced.

An '01 should fairly easily exceed '02 power with those mods.
