Default Z06 sized tires...

I was reading the discussion on the hydroplaning issues with the Z06 Goodyear tires, and did some looking on Tirerack.com

If you tell it you want tires for a Z06, it will only turn up the Goodyears and Michelin Pilot Sports.

But if you just search by size for 295/35/18's you get some more options.

Like the BF Goodrich G Force series.

Also of particular interest to me, (BUT EXPENSIVE) were the Goodyear Fioranos

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....gle+F1+Fiorano

Different tread pattern. Anyone know much about them?

Here are the options. I haven't checked to see if there are fronts to match, but these come in the (harder to find, I would assume) rear tire size.

Yokohama AVS Sport $297
BF Goodrich Comp/TA $265 (not well-rated, this is an old tire design)
Pirelli P-Zero $286
Michelin Pilot Sport $343 (I REALLY liked the old style ones, don't know about the new tread design)
Bridgestone Potenza S-02 $248 (has high rating from buyers)
BF Goodrich G-Force $347

I suspect that some of these tires are not going to be available in the front tire size we need. I don't know if there are any that have perhaps a 10mm larger size that would still work for the Z06, or even a 10mm wider and 5pt aspect ratio decrease.

Any thoughts?

Been doing the homework and the Toyo Proxes T1-S come in the exact size. The tread is perfect for daily driving but not too great for the track. The Pilot's are the best all round but they are not the correct size for the front -been warned that there may be problems with the suspension of the car. Didn't hear great reviews about the Pirelli's. You could get 4 Toyos installed down here for about $985 tax incl.

Speedvision World Challenge guys race on Toyo Proxes T1-S (yes, the street tire).

From http://www.treadepot.com
265/17: $168
295/18: $260

And you need to look-up fronts and rears... most of the tires listed above dont have fronts that will work...

I won't be in the market soon for tires for my Z06; however, I put Yokohama's on my '87 'Vette and they are great!! I'm not real happy about putting a Japanese tire on my C4, but I've got to admit it is a good tire. They are wear-rated at 400, but have really good traction and are wearing very well. About 20K on them now. Would be happier if they had an American name on them, but they are a very good tire.....go figure!!

I spoke with a representative from Kumho Motorsports a couple weeks ago. Kumho will soon be producing their new Kumho Ecsta MX series tire in sizes to fit the front and rear of the Z06.

Quoting the Kumho representative, he claimed that the Kumho Ecsta MX will perform in the wet like a Michelin Pilot (the best in the wet) and in the dry like a BFG g-Force KD (the best in the dry) for a price that will be significantly less money. Something for which to wait and consider. :D:D

Just got my new wheels with Toyo Proxes T1-S installed. These tires are absolutely fantastic on the street. It's been hotter and drier then heck here, so I haven't actually driven in rain. The tread design on these tires looks like it will be pretty nice in the rain. So far, I'm VERY impressed and would recommend them to other members.

You can get a good price on the Toyo's from Group A Wheels, http://www.groupawheels.com/. Call the West Coast office and speak with Jeff.

Ditto for me on the Toyos. I was the one who posted deep water problems with SC's. Toyo's are performing flawlessly. As far as the size is concerned, I chose to keep the exact same size for two reasons. One the Active Handling is programmed for the SC size and other non standard size tires are 10% out of tolerance. This could lead to problems with the active handling under certain situations, making a monor error a big problem. Secondly in an unfortunate accident situation., I don't want to give any insurance adjuster an easy way out in case of traction issues are used an excuse for nonstandard tires.

No active handling on the C4, so the size difference isn't much of a problem. Jeff over at Group A did a fantastic job of specing the tires and wheels. The car is like new again!

One thing about the insurance though... I talked to my ins co (State Farm) and they said that with a receipt and pictures that everything would be fully covered with no change in premium. I was more interested in protecting the wheels themselves, but due to your post, I'll take a close picture of the "TOYO" logo on the tires and have them put it on file.

Just once, I'd like to see a post that says, "I talked to the <insert brand here> dealer and he claimed that their new product <insert new product line here> is going to perform significantly worse than the <insert competitor brand here> and cost about the same or more!! So please hold off on all pruchases until the new product comes out (on time naturally)" :D
