At what point do you need a rear air duct?
After 13 years of ownership of my 2001 M6 coupe I'm FINALLY asking the question. I use my 2001 as a daily driver and have 166,000 miles on it...without any brake issues. For me, what benefit would be achieved by adding a rear brake duct? Or is it just Bling?

Same idea as your daily driver could have been a Camery, but you chose a Corvette, the reason Bling, Flash, feel good, etc. There is no reason to have a high performance car get you back and forth from work and the places you drive daily. I have rear brake ducts, I also have 14 inch rotors. They look nice, and set the car apart form cookie cutter stock Corvettes. That's why we do what we do. Pretty simple.

While my rear brake ducts are fully functional, they are in no way necessary in the completion of the type of driving I do. I would not own Fake brake ducts. Or a Fake Rolex. But many people do.

I'm curious now, because I read that even in competition, unless you bias the brake force more towards the rear, the rear doesn't get hot enough to need the air duct...

Simple question , simple answer. Bling.

I wear a Rolex. Not Because I need it, but because I wanted it. Because when I die, I want my Son to wear my Rolex, not a 50 dollar Timex.
I wanted real brake ducts on my car and I did Not want the Z06 type on my coupe. Not because it was a coupe but because in my opinion the Z06 ducts are like a Timex. And My opinion is all that matters when it comes to how I decide to modify my car. I never came here to ask permission, or opinion, or even validation.
No one should feel the need to buy something or want something that others may find appealing.

Need and Want are two different things. I Don't Need an 8,000 dollar Rolex when a 50 dollar Timex will tell me what time it is and the Timex wont risk my life.

I put a set of the factory rear brake ducts on my '00 but did so only for the bling look. If you decide to go with a set of the ducts on your car I would recommend looking at what alternatives to the GM ones are out there. The ducts on Evil-Twin's car look really good.

By the way Bill aka E.T. your rear brake ducts look great, something like that should have been standard on the Z06. If I recall you did those yourself right? Great job!!

I may try this mod in the future, however I agree that it's purely to scratch the mod itch. At least they are functional and not just a stick on 3D decal.

Good morning-
I've started to do a little research on this subject over the past 30 days. Luckily I have a good friend that's in the body shop business. Its about a GNote+ mod for me, that's purchasing the inner/outers, prep work, painting, install. Not too bad overall. The Rolex's were much more important to me in my thirties and I still sport them every now and then, this I'm still on the fence about. Not sure if its something I'm really hot to trot about... Stall n gears, headers, GPS Stereo are still high on my bucketlist, then again those aren't as cosmetic. We'll see? Metics like an attractive young lady are always desirable to me. I've learned over the years, in decision making, slow and steady wins the race
