I have an opportunity to buy 4 new wheels and tires for my C5 for less than I was going to pay for tires but they are all the same size.
I like the idea of being able to rotate the tires, but I'm not sure about any change in drivability. Curious about the change in stance also. I have stock wheels on it now, 17's and 18's.
Will going up to an 18" in the front change the alignment?
Are there any other pluses or minuses you can think of?
Is anyone else running 18's on all four, any pics?
I believe not having the 1" difference in front to rear tires will cause issues with several functions, maybe active handling, traction control, anti lock. I'm sure the experts here can explain this in much better detail.
You can run 18" wheels all the way around with no problem but the tires sizes need to be different. Like already stated you need a difference in front to back or it will throw codes in your abs/traction control/active handling system. There have been some cases where guys do it without getting codes but its hit or miss. I have 18's all the around on my car but tires sizes are 265 35 18 and 305 35 18.
Hi BK,
when you say the wheels are all the same size, are you referring to width as well as diameter? If the widths are the same, just pay attention to the manufacturer's recommended rim widths for a given tire size.
I happen to run 275/35-18 front and 295/35-18 rear on my Z06 - never any problems for over 6 years.
You can also use a 265/35 for your front (depending on availability, preference, etc.)
His tires are not the same size, the aspect ratio makes the back tires even though they are 18 wheels, much larger in total diameter. you run the same size tires front and rear you will have problems. there is more to a tire size than just the wheel size

your tires are not the same size, they do not have the same rolling circumference. the rear tires are bigger and taller.

I understand which is why I listed the tire size in addition to the wheel size

correct
I hope he understands all this.....he can run 18" wheels all around however wheel width will be different.....tire size cannot all be the same

no because the car is already set up for staggered sizes.....the difference between the front of my setup is right about 1"
335/30 rear and 265/35 front which is within the specs

As most all have stated you can run the same size wheel all around as long as the the wheel and tire combination gives you the correct stagger between front and rear overall diameter. Attached is a link to a calculator that will give you the dimensions of different wheel and tire sizes you enter.
EvilTwin will have the insight as to the correct stagger, but as I recall if you keep the stagger between .5 and 1.5 inches between front and rear you should not encounter any issues.
I run 18x9.5 wheels all around with 275x35 in front and 295x35 in the rear with no issues to date after a year.

I ran 19" wheels all around on mine for about a year and the stagger was made up by the different tire sizes front to rear. Stay within the 1/2" to 1.5" difference and you should be OK.
What they said. Depending on what the wheel width is and the tire size you're considering, you may be able to just replace 2 of the tires. An alignment shouldn't be necessary if the new tire diameters are close to the stock ones.
Here's mine with 18x9.5" wheels, 275/35 front & 285/40 rear.
