key fob programing
I think I may have to get a new fob for my 2000 vert...
I was wondering If anyone here knows if they can be programed without having to pay a dealer 50.00 to do it... never had one go bad on me before... didn't know they so expensive either...
thanks in advance...

This is directly out of the 2002 C5 OWNERS MANUAL (all fob programming is the same for all years!)Matching Transmitter(s) to Your Vehicle!
Each remote keyless entry transmitter is coded to
prevent another transmitter from unlocking your vehicle.
If a transmitter is lost or stolen, a replacement can be
purchased through your dealer. Remember to bring any
remaining transmitters with you when you go to your
dealer. When the dealer matches the replacement
transmitter to your vehicle, any remaining transmitters
must also be matched. Once your dealer has coded the
new transmitter, the lost transmitter will not unlock your
vehicle. Each vehicle can have a maximum of three
transmitters matched to it.
To match transmitters to your vehicle:
1. Turn the ignition key to ON.
2. Clear any warning messages on the Driver
Information Center (DIC) by pressing the
RESET button.
3. Press the OPTIONS button on the DIC several
times until the blank page is displayed, then press
and hold the RESET button for two seconds.
4. When the message FOB TRAINING is displayed,
press the RESET button once. The message HOLD
LK + UNLK 1ST FOB in the DIC will be displayed.
5. Press and hold the lock and unlock buttons on the
first transmitter simultaneously for five seconds.
6. When a transmitter is learned (matched), the DIC
will display FOB LEARNED and then prompt you
to learn the second transmitter.
7. Repeat Steps 5 and 6 for the third transmitter.
8. Remove the key from the ignition.
The programming mode will shut off if any of following
has occurred:
You don’t program any transmitters for two minutes.
You take the key out of the ignition.
You have programmed three transmitters.
IF you follow this procedure and it doesnt work, your fob has a bad battery OR it isnt working OR both. If you have tire pressure readings, the RFA is working properly and sending data to the BCM
Just an update to fob story... I went to the dealer this morning to pick a new fob 120.00 for the fob I might add and they told me that I couldn't program it to my car and It would cost another 50.00 for them to hook it to there computer and program the fob to my car... I read the owners manual and saw what you all are talking about but is there something they have to do before I can do the owners manual program? needless to say I'm not going to hand them that much money until I find out if this is BS or fact... so again I will appreciate any and all help before I lay out the cash
thanks again Joe
