Anyone have issues with these at smog time or are they a non-issue similar to upgraded axle-back mufflers? Seeing this vararam talk on here and think it would help my Corsa's out back. If it is an issue I will just bolt on the stock airbox every 2 years.
I ask as when I took the wife's '07 Mustang in for smog a few months back with the Ford Motorsport kit on it which consists of a cone air cleaner, tune and mufflers the tech was pissed as hell and said the car was HIGHLY modified and way ILLEGAL! even with the CARB sticker affixed, I ended up taking it to another smog shop with no issues.
Depends on who you take it to, but regardless most will not touch it with an intake that isn't carb legal.
It's a crap shoot.
We have tried two different 04's at the same place. Both have a Vararam. The same tech inspected and passed one and failed the other citing no c.a.r.b. number for the air filter.

Reason: spelling
I didn't have any issues at all. I took off the decals, used the stock air duct and black rubber couplers instead of the red ones. Only a person knowledgeable in Corvettes would be able to tell it wasn't stock, so it passed easily. Had way more trouble with my A&A supercharger, which is smog legal. The guy just could not believe it was smog legal in CA.
