I am planning on putting my Vette in storage next month. I read most of the threads on how to store the car for the winter. I came across one thread that said to put the car on stands and to remove the tires.

Is this really necessary? I live in MA and occasionally we get 45-50 degree days in December/ January and I may want to take it out for a spin, providing there is no snow on the ground.

What do you guys think?

I've stored my car every year for 12 years from the end of October until the middle or end of April, depending upon the weather. My car is kept in a climate controlled storage space that stays around 55 during the winter. I change the oil, add Stabil, fill the gas tank, and over inflate the tires. I also disconnect the negative terminal on the battery. I've never had a problem with the tires and my car has fired right up every time in the spring.

I always have carpet squares under the tires, been doing this for many years with no problems or as DevilDog mentioned you could over inflate the tires for storage.

I would not take the tires off or put it on jack stands for that matter. What happens if you have an emergency at home and need to move the car quickly. Don't want to have to stop and put tires on/take off jack stands in that case. Modern tires are not very prone to flat spotting. I store mine from around the first of December until sometime in March and have never had any issues with the tires or suspension. I do put carpet squares under my tires just to keep them off the cement floor.

I would keep it on a battery tender just to keep the battery in good shape.

I'm a creature of habit so I always put Sta-bil in the tank and fill it with 93. Clean the car, put a Battery Tender Plus on it, make sure the tires are up to pressure, cover it and say good night. It's sitting on blacktop in NY and I have no trouble with flat spotting.

And don't go out every month and run it for 5 minutes. Worst thing you could do. Just let it sit and fire it up in the spring.
