[QUOTE=DanSavage;1584966644]The last pic of the crash at the following site shows that the truck did have a bumper (Mansfield bar), but it looks like the Corvette driver skidded to the left of it and went under the part of the trailer that wasn't protected.
Thanks for the information. I looked up "Mansfield bar" and learned something new...
After a fatal crash of the then famous Jayne Mansfield in 1967 the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration made it mandatory that all semi truck trailers be outfitted with a rear under-ride bar or bumper sometimes called a "Mansfield bar"
In 1998 that standard was revised and the height that this requirement was set at was 22 inches (measured from the ground to the bottom of the bumper).
Regardless of the cause, .......I know it's easy to speculate about cell phones, texting, etc., .......... After a bunch of comments were made about drunk drivers, texting while driving, etc., it turned out the guy had suffered a massive heart attack while driving.
It won't be long before the anti-distraction folks use this picture to further their cause.
It's a rightful cause but they label these pics to suit theirs only regardless of what truly happened.
So,,,,,
If he wasn't "distracted" what do you supposed caused the accident, a bad EBCM?
I have no idea...I wasn't in his head or car. I'm just saying that pretty soon we'll see that he was texting, or drunk, or putting on his makeup, or whatever people want to claim for their cause.
He may have sneezed, had a heart attack, been texting, picking his nose, or just plain stupid or the car's performance exceeded his skill.....I dunno. Whatever, it's still a damn shame.
tragic!Unfortunately, have seen this before.Just cause our cars go fast, doesn't mean we all have the neccessary skills to stop/avoid collisions in time. Prayers out to family involved.
Its sad that people die in accidents. And people do make mistakes that causes injury or death to themselves or others. But everyone need to pay attention when driving. Be aware that someone else may make a mistake and you will have to compensate for that mistake. And then we have the people who drive way past their abilities. I am not going to coment on that or what I call them. What ever happened in these cases, don't blame the truck when someone rearends it. I got rearended while driving a truck while sitting still. And I was off the road on the berm. A minivan hit me at 55 MPH. Luck as on everyones side because of safety equipment in the vehicles. No one had any injuries that were not recoverable. I'm thankful for that. And none of this was in any way my fault. I never did get an explanation of why the other driver hit me. Brain fade of some sort I guess. I don't trust other drivers near as much as I used to. Just be careful. The life you save may be your own!
A local driver rearended a logging truck on a highway ramp here just the other day and the driver was killed. Law enforcement is still investigating. The photograph appears to show both vehicles on the right of way and it leads one to believe the driver of the car for some unknown reason was not able to stop before impact. Story #2; my daughter's boyfriend was driving his truck home from work a couple of days ago about twilight and he rearended a church van that was parked on the right of way with NO lights flashing or any warning. His truck is totaled and he has 3 broken ribs while no one in the van got a scratch. You never know when somebody is going to do something stupid in front of you so heads up and eyes wide open; drive like there's somebody you love at home waiting for you!!
They were also both drunk as hell. I met one of the cops that was on scene when I went through the Beaverton Citizen Academy. The driver went from a stop at the light turning left onto Murray to about 75mph before he swiped the tree. It was bad
