I had a P1416, air check valve, both h & c, cleared it and it came back. However, the weather cooled down a bit and now it's gone. In my research here I remember that if it doesn't malfunction again after a few cycles (3, 4?) it will reset the light. Should I maybe pull up the codes and delete the h entry or just not bother? If it takes 3 or 4 to set the code I'd have a "buffer".
Also, does outside temperature have any affect at all or was it just a coincidence?
I plan on in the near future doing the cleaning procedure, that's pushing my luck on the no maintenance rules here.
had the same thing happen. cleared it about 3 months ago and have driven about 2,000 miles since, hasn't came back
you have two check valves, one is easy to get at and clean the other requires pulling the manifold. forgot which one 1416 refers to but the one i had pop up was behind the manifold. cleared it, hasn't been back
new valves are $30 for ac delco on rock auto, most the time you can clean them with brake clean and they work like new again. if it comes back and it's the one behind the manifold i would buy new just because i wouldn't want to spend an hour or more pulling the manifold twice
I had the one behind the manifold throw the code. Saw a thread about squirting WD40 into the tube then using a compressor to blow the stuff down the tube - it lubricates the valve. It's not a repair just a fix, but I've not had a problem since last Spring.

My point is that I was planning on the cleaning but it went away on it's own. Pardon me if I'm grumpy, but does anybody read the whole post?
I was wondering if hot weather exaggerates the problem. I believe the P1416 code is for the passenger side, if it was the driver side I'd have replaced it by now. I think I'll do the cleaning before the weather puts a damper on my driveway mechanics.
I did read your whole post. While your code went away on its own with no investment for a new part, my code went away with a no-cost easy temp fix. I'm sure that both of our codes will resurface at some point and I'll have to replace mine while you will probably be able to use what I just did. I know our experiences are different - just trying to help you out down the road.
I would agree with Racebum though - if you're going to pull the manifold then just buy a new part.
