Default Seat back

Morning All,
Just purchased a gorgeous 2001 with 39,500 miles this week and I noticed that both seat backs (sport seats) flop forward about 6 inches. Are they supposed to be locked in position ?....and it seems like the unlock button on the upper back of the seat doesn't let into position...on Friday I was on my way home and I noticed my low oil quantity warning came on and I was lucky I was one block from Pep Boys...added one quart of Mobil 1 so now I'm going to be concerned with oil consumption until I drive it a few hundred miles to check it....WTF ??... Thanks in advance !!!

Rob

I think the 01's had an issue with oil consumption. They suck oil into the intake.

The seat back sounds normal. It should lock during impact. Mine act as you're describing. I may have a problem I wasn't aware of

My seats are the same way in my 01. Never really thought much about it.

Have almost 100k on mine, and no oil consumption issue. Must be a random thing..

The seats in my 99 are the same way. I don't really like them doing it, but not sure what to do about it.

My 01' seat backs lock into position, just ensure your seats are in a position that they lock in place. I have to use the lever on the back to have the seat backs move at all. As far as oil consumption, it has been posted in numerous threads, a oil catch can will help, I clean mine every 1,000 miles or so and have a decent amount collected....

Where is that position where they will lock in place, I can't find it. Both seats are power, does that matter?

I had to go out in the garage after I posted and double check but my seat backs are locked in position with no play. Definitely have to hold the lever on the back to move seat backs forward. Not sure if your seats have play or if its just the way my seats are.

On my `01 the seat backs won't move unless I use the lever. Also, I've never had a problem with using any oil. Of course I change it every 3K, so that might make a difference.

My 02 backs will move forward a bit before they hit the release, I have to hit the release to have the seat backs come all the way forward.

Mine move about 8-10" forward without pulling the lever on the back.

Pulling the lever, then they move all the way forward when pulled..

I'm curious for the guys who have this forward movement, are your seats stock?

Mine are Sport seats, but I had base seats originally.. Don't remember if the stockers were locked & needed to lever to move or not..

The seats in my '04 didn't move without flipping the lever up. My '99 seats flop around. I'm fairly certain GM changed the design somewhere along the lines.

Sport seats or standard? My '04 with sport seats has the same 6" or so of play that others report.
