AC compressor "whine"
Had an RPM related "whine" develop in the last few hundred miles. It is the ac compressor. Goes away when I turn off the compressor. Sounds like a supercharger, but I don't have one so that's not much of an entertainment value. Compressor is not "rattleing", just a high pitch whine. Replaced both small pulleys and the bearing in the ac clutch hub just hoping it would help. It didn't help. I should have known better, but it was less than going straight to the ac compressor replacement.
Question. Has anyone had any luck adding a little 100 wt pag oil to the ac system to help control compressor noise? (I think this system uses 46 wt oil)
The ac system is working great. Cycles fine and it will freeze you out. Pressures are steady and normal. No leaks, so it should not have lost oil. I hate to change the compressor, that's a PITA. Have Cooks headers and that cuts down on the working room a good bit. I have access to a freon reclaimer so i can do the work myself. Just hate wrenching on my car every night after spending 40 hrs a week doing that for a living.
