Spend $40 or so on a CLB, Column lock bypass... I am assuming you don't know about it yet. I always tell anyone I can about getting it taken care of so they don't end up stranded.. Simple cheap fix.

Enjoy your sweet ride and thanks for posting.. I really think you should post a pic of the Z and your Porsche together so we can see how the Brady Bunch siblings are getting along
I have a 04 TR Z06 with about 25K miles on it. Stock except for Michelin Pilot Sports (they were made for some Porche).
Have thought about a C6/C7 but I don't need more power, and can't justify the dollars on a car that gets so little use.
When I bought the Z in 05, I decided that I had better go to driving school. Went to Spring Mountain Motorsports (now Ron Fellows Driving School) a couple of times. At lunch a young student driver said that driving the Z06 around their track was better than sex. That says alot about the experience driving a Z as it was meant to be driven, particularly on a track.
Love the sound when the throttle is wide open.
If you get an opportunity to do a track day, go for it. Hard to safely experience the Z on a public road.
Lots of good info in the C5 Tech stickys, If you want to know alot about your car...http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...ngths-etc.html Hard to believe that there are obscure facts there like:
- how to easily open a C5 when the car is locked with the key in the ignition.
- the DIC will display codes that can be cleared without going to the dealer if the "Service Engine" light comes on. Don't know if the C6 or C7 can do this.
Check out your local public library or abebooks.com for the book "All Corvettes Are Red" if you are interested in the development of this car. It was written by an automotive journalist who was given total access by Robert Stempel, Chairman of GM, to all areas of GM and to all meetings in order to write the book. He had access to parts of GM that Senior VP's didn't have. Anyway, I found it interesting.
As guy with a Porche, you may find this to be of interest....the local Porche dealer recently had/has a consignment 2008 GT2 Porche with 2400 miles on it (yes, 2.4K). They wanted C$150K. Don't know anything about Porche used values but MSRP in 2008 was C$262,500 according to the dealer. A truly impressive car.
You'll enjoy cheap and available parts and labour for Vettes compared to Porches.
Best of luck with your new Z.

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

Interested in your thoughts on the two marques. Like you, I've owned many Porsches during the past 25 years and just sold a '07 GT3 because it was just too expensive to run at the track and the thought of wrecking a 80k car and watching that equity go away frankly scared the Hell out of me. I am searching for a C5 Z06 now as it appears to be the best performance car for the money on the entire planet. I'm hoping to be in the 20k-24k range for a 2002/3 with 30k miles. Maybe a little more for a nice example.
Anyway -- sorry to hijack -- enjoy the Z06.

I currently have a 1994 911 Turbo 3.6 and that car is really appreciating in value. There were only 420 of them produced for the U.S. and it was the only year they had the big engine with rear wheel drive, Speedline wheels and the big brakes.
It has been getting to a point where I didn't want to drive the car as much given the value. Honestly, it has been one of my better investments, not something that happens too often with cars.
Both cars are very different. I find the 911 to be a bit more refined, however, I really enjoy the Z06 for it's lack of refinement and raw power. So, I am looking forward to enjoying both cars for different reasons!
Best of luck to you with your search, it sounds like your expectations are well in line.
Having the valve springs replaced next week and it suddenly appears that the rear diff needs a fluid change. I am getting some clicking from the rear. After doing a search it sounds like changing out the fluid should resolve the issue (I hope).
