does anyone know if this add any extra HP to the car or should I buy something more of a brand name ?
tuner said it was fine,,, the top center of the filter is open instead of the sealed chrome top... your name brand will cost big $$$$.. and yes it will breathe much better,, picking up the HP...

Reason: add on
i remember those that's old school. what people found out is they actually cost you power versus the single element blackwing style. the way those twin cones are setup air is rushing in from both sides and creates turbulence where it hits
i doubt you would lose anything going to a 2002 z06 box with an amsoil or k&n filter. sure would be more secure in wet weather too
the vararam seems to make the most power but it's not one i would want to drive in the rain.
if you decide to change it do some reading up before you buy

I guess some people like them because they look different and custom. As far as performance, I remember reading the same thing about them.

I warned you not to drink the koolaide. I drive mine in the rain, I drove mine in a tropical storm. I've never thought of it as a submarine, so I highly doubt I'll see my motor hydrolock. Is that your fear?

that's the fear of any snorkel intake, they can suck up water and send it straight to the engine. other thing that bugs me about all the cold air intakes really is that they are bottom feeders and suck up a ton of debris versus the under hood style.
i guess some folks don't mind, however, if i had to choose a $400 mod on a stock car it would probably be the GM hot cam versus a vararam. the hot cam will pop a stock z06 a solid 30hp and doesn't require a spring or pushrod change. very easy to tune too.

simple rainfall will never hydro lock a vararam. Driving in 12" probably will but, you'll also flood the interior of your car and destroy the electrical system and computer on the passengers side of the car

i admit i'm skeptical mostly due to seeing what bottom feeders suck up in hondas. way way back when i worked in a shop during the ricer days guys would always put a long tube on a honda down in the fender well. the amount of leaves, grime and crap on the filter was pretty substantial.
if i only drove a couple thousand miles a year in mostly dry weather i would get a vara. around here some of the puddles turn into mini swimming pools and it's very possible to get a large amount of water in the front ducts. if that happens under any sort of throttle you will have just ingested water. it really doesn't take a lot to pop a motor
i just think there are safer ways to make hp. i mean, it's an LSx, you sneeze at them and gain 10hp

Its a cheaper version of BBK,, Volant ect. my tuner said don't believe the stuff written about the "turbulence"... it's not a straight Tee shaped intake... you can use the K&N filters for max flow,, there low filtering for higher air flow. .
