Currently I have a Corsa midpipe and cat back on my 02 Z...the OE cats are still in place. I was considering loosing the catted pipe and replacing it with a Magnaflow catless pipe (part #15479). Ebay sells them for $345 shipped, which doesn't sound too high for stainless and Magnaflow quality.
My questions are:
IS there a significant power gain to be had with this pipe to offset the added cost? Are the OE cats really that restrictive???
Does the exhaust get really loud and raspy with the cats gone?
Any negatives to the catless pipe?
Other than having the rear O2 sensors turned off, is there anything else that I should be concerned with?
From what I've been told and read thus far, the Z's have a really fat (rich) A/F ratio at WOT. I'm wondering if loosing the cats would lean the tune out to a more power oriented A/F ratio???

No much hp to be gained - maybe 5hp

The exhaust will be slightly louder.

The raw fuel smell is a major drawback. I lasted one week without cats, but couldn't stand smelling like gasoline everytime I got out the car.

It's a waste of effort if you ask me. If you're looking for more hp, get some long tube headers, cold-air induction, and a nice tune.
