I was driving along and all of the sudden all the gauges go crazy. They all point to the same place they do when the car is off. The DIC Is not working either. It has a bunch of "A"s and other letters that look like they r from the Russian alphabet. All my warning lights are on This has happened a few times before but disconnecting the battery would always fix it. My HUD is showing two dashes. Has anyone had this happen. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
So it starts & runs fine? Gauges just act up while it's running?
Start with the basics first - battery. Charge it up fully/get it tested.
If you do get everything working again (between gauge failures), pull the codes & post them here. Include all the H & C letters.
Open the drivers door, look for the accordion tube that runs from the A pillar to the door, grab a hold of it and shake it, now see if it works. You can also remove the tube and fish out the bundle of wires from the pillar and also the door. Unplug the plugs and the plug them back in. If everything is normal you should clean the contacts. See if you DIC works and check the codes, clear them and drive....

and check all your ground plugs and be sure your battery is up to par. Sorry, I forgot to tell you to disconnect your battery before cleaning the grounds. I did all this, and still had the same problem at only 14K miles. Don't forget to clean all the bus and other plugs under the passenger side kick panel area door sills, etc. There are at least 13 such plugs on your car. A Chevy dealer actually put a new cluster in just before I bought it. Typical dealer screw up. Nothing helped. See Bill Curlee's posts on ignition switch repair. I took mine out, and replaced it with a new one after re tensioning the contacts on the new one.. At only 18K, the old one had dirty contacts. Sure enough , that fixed the problem. Cleaned up the old one as a spare. After 200 start cycles, the gauge problem has not occurred and HUD has not gone out.
I would bet good money on the ignition switch as the source of the problem.
Bill Curlee is the man. We all owe him a debt of gratitude for his guidance on C5 electric issues.
