A few nights ago I was in the garage programming my new fobs. Evidently I left my dome light on for over 48hrs and my battery was dead as a door nail.
Went and purchased a red top ultima battery while I had the one still in the car charhing.
The next day I hooked uo the original battery and it seems to be working fine. Went all day with no issues.
Should I still install the new battery or wait til spring since it won't be driven much over winter?
I was worried about the column lock issue but I have a sticker under the hood showing the recall was done.

Be sure to keep the red top ultima battery charged up if you don't install it now. They can last 5 to 6 years if they are not drained too low.
If your original battery is 3-4 years old you might as well swap it out. Just MO
My 03 battery is still in the car, it has been hooked up to a Battery Tender every winter since new. Keeps the security system working which I appreciate.
Like you my battery is on its last legs but I am going to get a new one this week and put it in the car even though it is going into storage. I will keep the Tender on it, I think I will stay with flooded lead acid although the design of our cars makes that a bit risky. I just know from marine use that FLA seems to hold up better in the long term. It is hard on any battery to drain it completely, it eventually causes some internal battery damage.
Good luck with yours. If yours is as old as mine I would change it now.
Seems like once a regular battery is allowed to go completely dead, they are never the same... I would buy a new battery and install it.
I have had good luck with AC Delco Professional grade batteries...
I bought one several years ago, with a 50 month free replacement warranty, and have never had to buy another one...
I had one fail after 4 years, and they gave me a new one free.
If replacing the battery in a C5, replace with a gell type like a Red Top. Battery is directly over a lot of electronics and PCM , and a battery acid leak can cause a lot of expensive headaches.
GM's recommendation for batteries have changed since the C5 came out. Today it is 700 CCA and 120 CR.
According to GM technician Paul Koerner, 88% of column wheel lock problems have been due to low battery issues.
It's a free country so feel free to install any battery you like.
Ooh, good thing I have the bypass. These guys seem to like it plus there are other options they spoke of that I still need to look at. I like the idea of getting lighter where I can (exhaust, seats, battery, wheels). I think I'll do a little more research tho ughcause of your generous info! God bless America and aaaaaaall the options we have!
so today I was in the garage and ran power to install 2 4 ft fluorescent lights over the z06 and a couple outlets so I can have my air compressor and a space heater for winter.
Anyways, I figured while I was out there I would uninstall the back-up video cam that was in my vette. it took me about an hour and I had the trunk and doors open (dome light on). when I went to start the car afterwards....the battery did not have enough juice to start it. So I guess it made my decision easy! I installed the new battery. more than likely I will take it out for winter though. this is the one that I already had purchased.
because of my employer, I get $40 off a purchase of $110 or more....so this battery was $185 out the door. that's the most expensive battery I have every purchased!!!!!

Optima Batteries are made in Mexico now and quality has been sub par last few years.
Just what I have been reading on the forums here last couple years.
