Default Drivetrain backlash

Hi...

I am the proud owner of 2000 vert with 108,000 miles on. Drive it
every day and love it. Believe it or not...we are still on the stock clutch
so have decided to install and ls7 clutch setup this month...have got all
the parts together. Will also fix and annoying trans leak...seems to be
coming from the joint between halves. The car has some driveline backlash....I am wondering what else I should replace while I am under there...considering new torque tube connectors, trans mounts,
motor mounts...etc.

Let me know your experience.

Subscribed. I know that some backlash is normal in our cars due to the reardrive/ rear transmission layout. Unlike a rear transaxle setup, the transmission and differential are completely separate assemblies that are joined up by a driveshaft. So, there is a normal accumulated backlash. But, I am curious to hear what others think regarding this issue.

You will love the LS7 clutch, feels stock to me now. I would get a remote bleeder line for the clutch and also check the shifter bushings. Most of the time they are deteriorated and falling apart. They are not serviced from the dealer but available aftermarket.

I would rebuild the torque tube . When I had a clutch replaced, I was new to the car and followed the shops idea to go with a used torque tube, A decision I regret.

Since that decision I have seen some run out tolerances for the part and it was at least out to three decimal points. The shop felt for zero play in the tube by hand. With the miles on the car , and considering the task, I am embarrassed I didn't make a better decision. Torque tubes were new to me.

I wish I could give you some pointers on finding a better pilot bearing, but that's life.
