Ok its driving me up the wall. I have searched the crap out of it here but no luck. My early model c5 has a loud squeeky wheel when you turn it. I know its a common issue and needs lube. I really dont know if I spray under the car under the hood or inside the car. My question is where exactly is the bearing that needs grease.
I just read something about a member that also has a 98 and he put some lube down where the shaft goes through the firewall. Hopefully that may help you on yours.

Thay picture looks like its from the 60s I have no clue where that is on the car.
I've seen that procedure dozens of times and haven't figured out what that picture is showing. Maybe someone could shed some light or provide a better pic.

Isn't it obvious - it's the "lower bearing where you can inject lithium grease".... sorry just could hold myself back.

Same squeak here - same inability to identify whether that picture is from a corvette or under some dude's sink - if anyone can post a more helpful picture I would be grateful also!

The upper and lower column bearings are up high in the column...It is the lower column nylon bushing that makes the noise. The bushing is incased in the big gray rubber grommet visable under the hood at the firewall, were the steering shaft is.If you are good at getting into tight places, spray some white lithium grease behind the grommet...For best results, remove the steering shaft and pop the grommet out to lube the bushing (dont rotate the steering wheel with the shaft removed
