I have found a 72 stingray corvette in a barn on the Oregon coast.I have seen it sometime ago but lost most of the information that i had on it.It is owned buy the original buyer, has 48K on the clock,is a auto, and needs one of the T tops replaced. The body seems to be in fair shape.Owner is asking 10K.I would like to hear some opinions about the value of this car and what it might be worth.

That's an amazing find.If you're not mechanically skilled, I think you should have someone who is, check out the car. It may have been sitting for years and may need a complete restoration mechanically, before you get to the cosmetics. Try to get estimates on parts/labor, before you pull the trigger. You could spend $5000 at a minnimum on the paint alone.
Good luck.
Sounds like a nice find. The gents in the C3 section may be able to help you more. Though knowing the knowledge here I'm sure you will get help here as well!
I own a C3 (78) and hang out in C3 section as well. I would post there to get some hard hitting feed back.
But first I would get some more info..pics if possible. then post or else you will get 10 posts that tell you I cant help without more info
My educated guess is that this could be an epic find
That stated remember this..The C3 is an expensive mistress to be sure.
You also need to understand what the end game is here. Are you a C3 fan and want the car to love and cherish forever? or Are you looking to make some bank here.
If the end game is to flip it then be careful. Market is soft and the car needs to be nice to make it work.
I have averaged $100/day for last 60 days to get mine mechanically sound and did all the work myself.
Good luck on the quest just remember the you could exceed the value of the car in repair cost in a quick fast minute especially if the bird cage is damaged or it has frame or body mount issues.
If you don't know what all those issues look like first hand you will need a C2/C3 guy to go with you to check the old girl out!!
A buddy and I found a 65 vert in a barn about a year and a half ago. It was a two topper with a decent body and frame. It was a non original engine. The barn had been damaged by a storm and the owner wanted to get rid of the car and the barn. We made a deal to buy the car and tear down the 'barn' for $10,000. The car is currently having a frame off restoration. It turns out it was an original fuelly car. It will take many thousands of dollars to get it restored properly.
I hope one day I can find one the these barn finds. Watching velocity TV seems to happen a lot. Hope my luck will reach me someday. But good luck OP sounds like a great find!

just be careful. These car require a lot of attention and can get crazy expensive in a hurry
Just make sure you really get a handle on what condition this car is really in..
Thanks for the response everyone. I own a 01 C5 convertible so I have a pretty good idea about cost,it's just that I don't know much about the older vets
Fred
Paint will cost a LOT more than $5K. The problem with the old cars it the resin in the fiberglass get very brittle over time and they tend to get stress cracks around the headlight buckets and the front windshield and cowl. You can grind them out, fill them with the stranded filler and about a year after you get a perfect paint job on them, you see a tiny crack somewhere. Frame off is the hot way to go but you can drop $30-50K in no time, especially if you try to make it numbers correct again.

No offence Fred, but I bet you don't. I'm planning on getting an '80/'81 at some point so I've been lurking in the C3 sections every now & then. There are LOTS of threads telling the woes of fixing up C3's - as in $$$ woes. And the common theme is finding more (and more etc..) issues as the car is being repaired. Most of the owners can do the work themselves and are still finding out it's way more work/$ than they bargained for. Not trying to rain on your parade - just warning you based on my observations.

he speaks the truth $100/day for 60 days on a running driving car with new paint
OP, you need to find out what the car is worth completely restored or in various states of restoration. As an example, I found an identical twin to the first Vette I ever owned, a 69 Cortez Silver vert, 350/350 4 speed, posi with two tops, the second top was a vinyl roof and a fm radio. The completely restored car had an asking of $19,500. I got $10K for my 69 when I sold it 12 years ago. It wasn't running, needed a new radiator and a complete resto. I think I came out ahead financially.
If you really like chrome bumper C3's and I can certainly understand how easy it is to get hung up on one, look at what a restored one costs, equipped the way you like it. It may be less expensive to buy the finished product.
Hi Chip! I looked at it late last year but I did not put much into checking the real condition.I was more or less just thinking about flipping it if I could get it for the right price. The vette is in Tillamook about 90 miles from where I live.I will be there over this next weekend for Veterans Day and I will try to check it out a bit further if the owner is home and that it has not been sold.It has never been advertised for sale,it just happened to come up in a conversation when I had my vette down there.I will take some pics while I am there. If anything comes of this I will PM you.
