Most, if not all, are assembled by hand in America. So much so as an added option you can help assemble your own engine.
I say if not all because I think they have an engine assembly plant in Mexico. It could be vette engines are all assembled here but the ls is also in trucks and some other cars. They could be built in Mexico
"Made in Japan"?
At one time that statement was a comdemnation of almost any product.
Now that is actually a sign of quality versus something made in China.
However, the Corvette engines are manufactured in North America.
Yup. The strict inspection laws (and 'buy-new' culture) in Japan generally mean that a lot of cars get scrapped in the 5-10 year range: the engines are usually pulled first and exported. It used to be you could get used replacement engines for Toyotas/Hondas/etc dirt cheap...less so now as most Japanese cars sold here have US-specific engines.

this isn't true, big myth that a lot of americans believe. taxes change on older cars and the gov creates incentive to buy new. there are still 90s cars on the road in japan, just not nearly as many as we have.
the 60,000kms story is one that all the importers try and sell but there are a LOT of cars that get imported with 150-200k kms
never ever buy from one of those outfits without a compression test of the engine. you may get a low mileage engine or you may not. sometimes they buy front halfs, sometimes they are piles of motors. this topic comes up a lot on honda tech and guys have bought some pretty worn out "60,000kms" engines.
just be very careful. i would strongly prefer a US based junkyard. as a whole they are simply more honest
