Back in the day, long before the EPA, that was a pretty common way to do it.
Same with draining the radiator, pull the car over the sewer in front of the house and open the petcock and let her drain.
Boy our great great grand kids sure have a wonderful place to inherit, thanks to idiots like that. That kind of crap is so uncalled for, talk about lazy

Well, back in the 60's I always drained my radiator in the street and flushed it with garden hose. And dug a hole in the back of our lot for pouring my used motor oil. Seemed perfectly natural back then
But then again, also didn't use kiddy car seats, seat belts, bike helmets and all our poop went straight to the river, just different time back then.
