Removing tar and other road kill. . . .
Take an expired credit card and cut it in half. Get a spray can of WD-40 and soak a edge of a rag, wipe the tar spots with the WD-40 to soften them and then scrape them off with the credit car and finish up polishing the spot with WD-40. Very possibly the most revolutionary chemical ever produced. As so well stated above, there ain't nothing Duck Tape, WD-40 and vice-gripes can't fix. 
I ran over a freshly painted Yellow line and you can imagine what super bright yellow looks all the way down my 2003 rocker panel. I got the credit car and a can of WD-40 and I laid down on a big piece of cardboard and about two hours later all the Yellow was gone. The credit card won't damage your paint and the WD-40 soften up the paint so the literally 'Popped" off the rocker panel surface. I used a whole new can of WD-40 but I learned a damn good lesson about watching where you point your Corvette.
