Default How to 'renew' center dashboard

My center dashboard is starting to look a little 'old'. I'm not sure how to describe it, but it's getting slightly sticky. Same thing with the center of my steering wheel. Hard to describe but it's pretty much like a dust and dirt magnet. I don't know if anyone has a similar issue...

Any suggestions on fixing something like this? Perhaps the sun and the years of the vehicle put a toll on it? I'm not sure

I have a feeling there is some magic to it that will remove it easily

"IF" those areas are just "sticky" then scrub them repeatedly with Goo Gone or similar and they will clean up completely and the stickiness will be history.

Their are threads on cleaning the steering wheel air bag cover which can get sticky and attract all kinds of dirt and dust but the will clean up nicely.

My buddy has that problem on his 2003 steering wheel. He thinks it is because he used lousy cleaners on it, such as regular Armor All. I agree with the first reply though, replace while parts are there.

How about removing and re painting? Easy job and you could color it to match what ever.

Thought about it. but I'm not sure if it'll look it's part unless I do a real good job... wonder if there is a 'DIY thread on it, cuz i'm not sure how to properly do it.

Good. Now go buy a spray bottle of 303 Protectant and USE it periodically, on the entire interior as well.
Find it mainly at RV supply stores or marine supply stores (of which there are likely one on every corner in Boca). It's the real deal. No kidding.

Just ordered some from NAPA. should be in tomorrow... Then I will apply it.

I really wish I had taken a 'before' picture. I took an after cleaned picture, and will do a after 303'd picture and post here.

Now I gotta figure out what to do with my seats. re-upholster or get some other seats... hmmmm

Glad you got the pieces back in shape. Goo Gone does wonders getting the sticky residue off.

What is involved in removing/re-installing the dash? A bunch of gauges involved?

You can go to youtube and search "C5 Corvette Dash Pad Removal" and it should bring up the video I made of the process. Not a hard job at all.
