Default Side Rear Marker light burnt out - Replacement?

Hopefully a simple answer to my question. I have a left rear side marker light that is burnt out on my 2002 Z06. I looked in the trunk and saw that I obviosly need to remove the carpets to get to the light, but wasn't sure how to remove the plastic retaining backing to get to the bulb/assembly. Is is screwed in, or does it just pop out to remove and replace a bulb? Didn't want to start pulling on stuff and accidentally break something. Anyone ever replaced these burnt out bulbs before?

I assume it is a simple process.

Thanks.

Take out your outboard tail light lens and reach in through the opening. The light socket is right there. It's tight, but not a difficult job to change the bulb. No need to do anything from the interior of the car.

How do I get the lens off? I don't want to pry on something and a) crack the lens or b? damage the finish.

You do not have to remove the side marker light to replace the bulb. As Jack said remove the outside rear brake light on the side with the burned out bulb. Look inside and you'll see the two nuts and the bulb socket. Pop out the bulb and replace it. I used if I remember correctly a 194 clear led bulbs you can get them at any auto store. They last longer and produce less heat

Steve, to remove the marker lights remove the outside tail lights, look inside you will see two nuts and the wire going to the bulb socket. Be very careful to not break the plastic stud that the nut is on. I think it's a 10mm nut.

Thanks for the clarification. I misread the part about removing the outboard taillight for access. I want to replace the stock bulbs with LEDs. Since I have fairly slim arms and long fingers, this should not be a difficult job.

It's easy. I used red led bulbs. Yellows in the front.

Think I will do the same. JWMotoring sells the LEDs for $15/pr. As another member said recently, you can't have too much visibility.

To change the fronts, is it easier to go in from the top or the bottom?
