The car is running really great and I've always wanted a forged bottom end. So it looks like one of my goals may be completed by next summer. I wanted a 416cid Mast Motorsports LS3 , but that's a bit beyond my cash allowance. So instead I contacted KP Racing in Houston and they recommended I call LME and get hooked up on what I want.
After talking with LME it appears I may take my engine to them and they'll build me a F/I short block out of it.
I'm happy the pricing is something I can handle and can have a sweet new build for 800hp.
I know they build a lot of 1/4 and standing mile cars so it's better than trusting my rusty engine building skills(last complete rebuild I done was in 1987) and LS engines are not my forte.
There are so many options out there it can be a bit confusing for sure, but with forced induction as many have stated its a matter of time depending on how you treat your current engine, I know I will be going down this same road before long so I will definitely be interested in how your build goes, keep us updated ok.
LME said they could build it for F/I by using pistons with a thicker piston top so the first ring groove lands are thicker and stronger for boosted use. Seemed like a great idea to me!

Yep, Next will be, fuel system, clutch, torque tube, trans, differential, trans brace, diff brace, half shafts, etc etc.
Hey Rick, uhhh, you think I can have your cast off parts??
I actually have a storage building full of my stock parts just incase the day comes that I want to sell the car. All the go fast stuff and body panels comes off. So the sale will read...... slightly used stock 98 coupe with XXXXXXX miles and never driven in the rain, yada, yada, yada.
Rick you just scared the poo outta me. I was thinking to myself... well damn Rick just blew his motor that means mine is next, seeing how we have similar mods!!! Can't wait to see what the built bottom end does for you. I have been tossing it around myself.
nice,, recently bought a lmr 427 for the racecar.......now im looking for something for the z06 ..trying to get a good deal on another lsx setup but they are far and few so probally have lmr do me a ls3 416 they got good deals
Yup, I recently lost my engine as well. I'm keeping it simple though and reusing a lot of existing parts by going with a 383. I love some of the stuff ERL is doing with resleeving though. Could build a nice 427 and keep the stroke manageable with one of their setups. Just a bit out of my price range at the moment. I'm really not wanting to drop $20k into an engine build.
Just get it built for strength, not cubic inches. You can really get a bargain on LS2 shortblocks that you can use your present heads/intake, etc. on. Since you're boosting it already, just add more boost, and meth if needed. It'll make whatever power you need.

I'm probably going to keep my LS1 pretty much stock cubes and just upgrade the rotating assembly to forged. I'm not even going to worry about different heads since I already have great stock heads that have a little work put into them.
If I stay right where it's at performance wise, I have a real good running set-up as it stands now. Going 383 or a 416 is just something I can do without at this time.
It's great now and goes when I mash the go pedal. So this will allow me to build up the cash fund for the build later.

If mine had gone out a few years ago; I would probably have gone a completely different route and done something crazy in the 400+ ci range. But, times are different now with money and the market for selling these cars.
